Manny Pacquiao is the King, Floyd must fight a man his own size

Saturday, October 3, 2009

By Reynaldo G

This is in response to Lou “Cinder” Block’s article “Move Over Pacman, King Mayweather Wants His Throne Back!” . First off, I am of Puerto Rican decent and not a Filipino, I also sent in an article before  “A fight fan’s view of Cotto vs. Pacquiao”. Now, Lou you are entitled to your own opinion, but you must remember styles make fights. Just because Juan Manuel Marquez had done well against Manny Paquiao in 2 close fights, does not mean Mayweather Jr. will have an easy time with Manny Pacquiao or does it put him above Manny on the pound for pound list in my eyes.

These are my following reasons why Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not pound for pound king. Floyd Mayweather Jr. comes out of retirement, picks Marquez who is a blown up featherweight, disrespects Marquez and boxing by not even making the weight on the scales and beats up on a smaller man who showed his age and was slower with the extra weight. Floyd had an option and could of fought Shane Mosley, Mosley was available and ready to go, Mosley is also a true welterweight and a champion who just beat Antonio Margarito for the title. Mayweather claims he fought Marquez because Marquez called him out, but yet he didn’t fight Mosley even though Mosley was more vocal and has called Mayweather out on numerous occasions. He is cherry picking his fights to stay on top, while laughing his way to the bank. Bob Arum was correct in saying Floyd Mayweather Jr. is scared to lose and cannot handle the thought of losing. Manny Pacquiao on the other hand is not afraid to lose and is taking on a far more dangerous opponent in Miguel Cotto a man who has proven to have superior timing against faster opponents and will be a good size bigger than Pacquiao come fight night.

If Floyd Mayweather’s victory over Marquez makes him greater than Pacquiao, what about when the heavy underdog in Manny Pacquiao destroyed Oscar De La Hoya in 9 rounds, while Floyd went 12 rounds  in a split decision win? Or how it took Floyd Mayweather Jr. more rounds to beat Hatton and it took Pacquiao only 2?  I say Pacman’s feats are far more impressive given his style and his willingness to fight to win and not to protect his record.

There is no denying that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is one of the most scientific boxers of all time but he needs to fight guys who are in his weight class and guys who can challenge him. For now the King is Manny Pacquiao.

I will have to add this…those fights with Hatton and Oscar were over rated because those were not the best versions of either fighter.

Floyd jr to me has the elite resume…while Pac has fought guys on the down of their career. Pac is still exciting though.

I give you credit for having the balls to respond but there is so much wrong with your article and it is bias man.
Everyone knows pac fights weight drained fighters, Floyd fought oscar at 154 so oscar was fresher. I have so much confidence in Floyd he would out class Manny!

Some people whining about Pacquiao beating drained fighters.. What about Mayweather not fighting an elite welterweight, a division in which he is in. Pacquiao fought, beat and is still fighting fighters bigger than him and are future hall of famers. Take a look at this scenario, Pacquiao a natural lightweight taking on Cotto who is a monster at Welterweight, while Mayweather a natural welterweight picking a guy who has fought at featherweight all his life and has only fought at lightweight twice.. lol.. just face it, Pacquiao has a better resume than Mayweather ever will even if he fought and beat him. Pacquiao is the “KING.”

actually hatton was more efficient in 140lbs than when he fought pbf in 147lbs. No one can ever really know who the better man is between pac and pbf until they settle it in the ring.

This debate has been answered already, at least in my survey. Famous boxing writers of BWAA with the likes of Adam Pollack, Ivan Goldman, Tom Hauser, Bart Barry have given their views who should be the pound-for-pound king. Results are here: http://boxingnewsworld.blogspot.com/

Floyd Jr. fans don’t have a clue whats going to happen to there boy Floyd. And when it does happen its going to be like he cheated. Steroids or some bullshit. Beside Pac-Man is the one who truly is saving boxing for now. Most fight fans already turned to MMA but many of those will watch the Upcoming Cotto fight! Tells you something of the sport. And for all those sweet science people, your asses would be creamed in a real street fight against MMA.
The people know what really works for true self-defense. And it ain’t no left hand hanging low and a shoulder raised high.

Pacquiao a true warrior. He did not hesitate to challenge big fighter. Not to compare to gayweather, comimg back from vacation. And picking small dude Marquez and cheating him by over weight . And claiming the best . Best for what… cheating.. Ha ha ha…more cheating to you.. scared ass…

Oscar agreed to fight Manny at 147 and even stated to the press that making 147 isn’t going to be a problem. Oscar gets beat up and now he comes out with excuses that he was weight drained. Ricky Hatton, the 140 pound king, agrees to fight Manny at 140. Ricky gets knocked out and all kinds of excuses come out that he wasn’t trained properly and that Mayweather Sr.
No matter what, excuses will always come to play and “somehow” justify the reason for losing.
If Manny loses to Cotto I bet there will be an excuse for why he lost, but short of giving Cotto full credit. Excuses, Excuses, Excuses

and if Manny wins, i doubt if Fraud Gayweather will call Manny. Especially if it’s a convincing win, Gayweather will finally call his retirement for good, I guess…

Yes, truly no doubt about pacquiao as the P4P king. And mayweather is just a trying hard claimer of the title. His time is already done and he should accept that.

Yes, I definitely agree with you. Pacquiao love’s to fight and to win compared to Mayweather he is very choosy with his opponent he wants that his every fight he should have big advantages to make it sure he will win and for sure protect his record.

So who’s the real P4P KING NOW?
