Manny Pacquiao Give Edwin Valero A Chance

By Jorge Conejo
In 2003, Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera gave an unknown man from the Philippines a chance at his Ring Magazine featherweight title. That unknown man became one of boxing’s most legendary warriors and a future all time great, his name is Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.
Could knockout sensation Edwin Valero given the same opportunity pull off the of upset over Pacquiao?
If you are reading this and have no clue who Edwin Valero is, just hit up youtube and you will find many of his fights online. After you check out some of his fights on youtube, you will be in awe of how exciting and ferocious this guy is.
Edwin Valero is undefeated, with a record of 25-0-25 ko’s, all 25 of his victories are by ko. The first 18 of his 25 knockouts came in the first round.
I am one of the few who believe that Edwin Valero, the Venezuelan bomber, would have the stuff to beat Manny Pacquiao. Valero is a southpaw, chiseled and muscular just like Pacman, and he is a devastating knock out puncher whom I believe has more power in his hands than Manny.
The fight would be an all out war, unlike other fighters who faced Pacman, Valero will not take a backwards step or go on his bike, he would pressure Manny no matter how badly he gets hit. Just like Manny, Edwin Valero fights even harder when he gets hit.
There is a roadblock though, Valero is not sanctioned medically to fight in Nevada or anywhere else in the United States besides Texas because he has been denied medical clearance.
On February 5, 2001 in Venezuela, Valero was involved in a motorcycle accident, he was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe brain trauma. He immediately had to undergo surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain caused by the accident.
Valero was cleared to fight in 2002 by his Venezuelan doctor. In 2004 he was signed to Goldenboy promotions, but he was denied the right to fight in the United States after failing a mandatory MRI brain scan in New York.
Even though he was denied license to fight in the USA, Valero continued to box outside of the States mainly in Japan and his home of Venezuela. In 2006, Valero won the WBA superfeatherweight title in Panama against Vicente Mosquera. In that same year, talks of a possible Pacquiao vs. Valero superfeatherweight showdown buzzed through the boxing message boards, but the fight never materialized.
Before Manny Pacquiao retires he should give Valero that same opportunity that Barrera gave him in 2003. The fight could happen, since Edwin Valero is apart of Bob Arum’s Top Rank promotions, the same promotional company that promotes Manny Pacquiao.
Valero could help carry the sport of boxing when Pacquiao retires, he has the same qualities Manny has, they both are aggressive, hungry, action packed, southpaw power punchers who always put on the most exciting fights.
I see in Edwin Valero today what I saw in Manny Pacquiao back in 2003, a future star in the making.

Here’s a question for you..
Do you think Valero can handle Cotto’s punches?
Good article, I think if Pacman only has 3 more fight he should give valeros that shot
valero is very much an exciting fighter win or lose he does reminds me of pacman too.
Even if Valero get knock out he will still win a fans because he puts his heart and balls on the line every fight
It would’ve been an exciting fight at 140 if Valero’s skull hadn’t opened once.
It would be scary to check if Valero can take Pakyaw’s punches. Valero can wind up in his grave.
Lapu
I agree with you on that
that is a dangerous fight for valero because what if his brain gets injured again from pacs shots?
that would be a tragedy and a heavy burden on pacmans mind.
Barrera gave Pacquiao a chance becuase he heard this filipino dude was clobbering his Mexican compatriots. He didn’t care about Pacman. he just wanted to take him down and end it altogether.
I for one wouldn’t give Valero a chance until he actually beaten a legitimate fighter. Go fight Soto, or even Hatton. Then you get a chance to fight a top notch fighter.
And if he get’s a chance, he won’t hesitate to promote Hugo Chavez the dictator who hates the US.
LOL at dave p
that had me laughing because valero even has the hugo chavez tattoo on his chest LMAO
Yeah Pacquiao should give Valero his biggest payday of his career cuz he has won so many great fights fighting all the toughest and best fighters in his division during his GLAMOROUS and ILLUSTRIOUS boxing career! Valero doesnt deserve shit.
T Money hates Venezulans lol
pacquiao was already a two-time world champion that time my friend…
oh cmon this guy got brain damage from an accident and valero dont hav any defence, paquiao will definitely kill this guy… dont make this fight i dont want to see pacquaio commit murder
I wouldn’t give Valero a chance to risk his own life to fight Pacquiao. Pac LOVES to go to the head. If Valero takes too many bombs to the head with a brain injury of that severity there is a high chance he would die in the ring if he gets knocked out by Pacquiao.
Take note that Valero has no defense, he just throws punches. Pacquiao may have been the same person, but Pacquiao learned how to box because of Roach. Valero still needs a coach to train him.
Guys pac only got 2 more fights and he wants to go to politics.
valero is green like pacman was, but he got a potential to bring fans to the sport because he is not a runner like mayweather jr.
fans wants excitement and valero will bring that
Valero should fight top caliber boxer. he should prove first his boxing skill and fight top notch boxer, i think if he fight The PACMAN, he will be KO/TKO. his not on the level of PACMAN right now, if he only relay on his power punches the only thing he can hit is a thin air. thats all. in fairness to Valero you need to train hard and fight top boxer after you have a chance to fight PACMAN. but MANNY will retire after he beat badly PBF so look for another opponent then! cheers
Valero should prove first if he is worthy to face the level of Pacman. He must first fight high caliber fighter like Sotto, Katsidis, Diaz, Marquez, etc. Once he defeated some of them then he is qualified to face Pacman. He has good punching power, however, I truly feel he will be decimated by Pacquiao very early.
If Pacquiao and Valero fight, we would see a Venezuelan flag with Hugo Chavez’s face plastered in the middle of the ring. Pacquiao already moved up so many weights and had a very good resume when he fought Barrera. Valero? Uhhh lez see….taxi drivers.
im a fan of valero. a exiting fighter with a record of 25w 25ko. 18kos 1st round?! in his weight class?! rare! even if you faught standard boxers, 18kos in first round?! like heavyweights only smaller. hire a great coach to work in his defence and a great conditioning to work in his touchness and there you go next “pacman”.
Boxing is a very dangerous sport. If he couldn’t pass the medical exam or brain scan he shouldn’t be in the ring. I know he had great potential but
I don’t see him as having much of career. Hope he wears his helmet now.
Why not Valero climb up the ladder first? I mean, Simeon Butar Butar of Indonesia is a good match up for Valero. If he gets past Butar Butar, Valero could challenge Chris John of Indonesia. If Valero would be successful on both bouts, he could challenge Amir Khan. I am sure by the time he faces the Pacman, Valero is already a seasoned fighter.
The camp of Barrera that time thought that a fighter from Asia who’s named is Pacquiao was chosen to make Barrera’s boxing record looked good. Barrera’s team had thought that it would be a walk in the park. Pacquiao did not beg for that fight. Barrera was just signed in by the Golden Boy Promotions so Barrera had to “pad” his record at the expense of the Pacman. Anyway, Pacquiao is not an ingrate, that is why he gave Barrera a rematch. Barrera was able to cash out and finish his law studies in Mexico and become a lawyer because he was able to earned more than US$1 MILLION from that rematch courtesy of Pacquiao. This is not to mention that Pacquiao went easy against him during the rematch and did not suffer a single knockdown. Barrera was able to finish the fight and remained standing after the 12 rounds. In other words, it is a quid pro quo and Pacquiao reciprocated the opportunity that Barrera gave him the first time they faced each other.
For Valero, well, why not fight Butar Butar, John, and Khan. Who knows, Bob Arum might pair him against Zab Judah or Miguel Cotto four years from now. But by the time that 4 years come, Pacquiao may be the President of the Philippines and fully retired from boxing.
VALERO IS OLD!!! AND HE DOES NOT FIGHT WORLD CLASS FIGHTERS!!! JUST WEAKLINGS.
Know what? I do seriously think that, in contrast to what you are writing, you want Valero to get killed in the ring. If Cotto (a full welterweight) was beaten very badly by Pacquiao, Valero will be killed in the ring by Pacquiao.
I agree with most post in here. Too dangerous for Valero to fight Pac specially when Valero doesn’t have a very good defense. Cotto is a very good welterweight and got a good beating from Pac. Just imagine what Valero would get. After the fight, Pac’s record will be …
W51 L3 D2 KO39 KILLED 1
Valero ruined his chance to fight in the US after he got his bike accident. He’s got a second chance but ruined it again when he got caught with DUI in Texas. This is the reason why he wasn’t granted a US Visa for his last fight. Stupid mistakes. He ruined his own career.
pacman is not human inside the ring he is a monster, so dont force valero to fight pacman because he might end his life to that monster.
There is no short cut to success. Earn your way up. Valero should stop fighting taxi drivers and start fighting quality opponents. Pac earned his way up.
mosquera who??? i didnt even know that there was a champ named mosquera. even juan ma lopez could kill valero in a match. i doubt if valero could even beat mallignani
Valero has not fought anybody, all of his fights are against fighters who aren’t full time.
Let him fight a few ranked fighters to see if he is up to the task, because if what happened to Hatton…happens to him…he may actually die.
Lastly, he can’t even fight in Vegas…lately…due to money…that is the only place Manny fights….so unless Valero can get a license….
Nothing against your man Valero but he is not even tested at all. C’mon, that zero loss doesn’t mean jack! Once he face someone in the caliber of P4P boxers he will immediately realize were he really belongs.
Stop saying that Valero would die during a fight with Manny, Hitting Valero is easy and it’s exactly the same than recieving one or two punhes, Edwin has fought only 51 rounds while Manny has been battling 305 rounds, Manny’s huge Stamina. Valero is a huge athlete whose natural weight is 145 pounds.
so, 1) Edwind’s brain could be in better shape than Mannys
2) Manny’s health is in more risk then Valeros.
Beside those concerns, I’d love the bout happens next year, it would be a REAL war and it wont go the distance.
PS, Vicente Mosquera was a huge boxer, a young champion from Panama, you can youtube to watch Mosquera beating a dude from thailand in New York.
Let Mr. brain damage beat Miguel Cotto first, before dreaming to fight w/ P4P. I’m sure Cotto will kill this Mr. brain damage boy.
I think he should fight first marquez, hatton cotto, and diaz before dreaming a fight with the P4P.
It doesn’t matter if he has 25-0 fights and 18 of them are on KO round 1. I can say that most of KO’s are from class B fighters. I mean most. not all. thanks.
Valero is a political hot rod. He aligns himself with Hugo Chavez. Now the INS won’t give him a visa. Blame it on his fried brain. Stupid.

hahahahaha you hit the right spot dude! i can’t stop myself from laughing hard…
F uck Valero. I’ll give you a chance after you beat one of these fighters. At least one of these fighters: JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ, MIGUEL COTTO, RICKY HATTON, DAVID DIAZ, OR even at least AMIR KHAN. to the writer, do you get my point now? What f ucking chance are you talking about? This Valero asshole might not even make it with the fighters i mentioned above. So please stop smoking pot or something because you don’t know what you aRE talking about. And why not challenge Floyd, HE MIGHT TAKE YOUR CHALLENGE TO AVOID ME. MR. WRITER, do you get the logic now? I’m supposed to fight VALERO instead of MAYWEATHER? COMPARED TO THE FIGHTER I MENTIONED, VALERO IS A F UCKING BUM.
Money wise Valero is not worth anything.
i would like to see cotto vs valero first!!
According to your logic, Manny should retire right now for his own health. Pretty Boy will never man up because he knows he wouldnt defeat Pacquiao, so what is the next for Pac-Man?
Marquez III?, Mosley?. Stop being blind, egoistic or materialistic. Fighting Valero in Mannila and then retire is a very smart move.
Who valero fought taxi drivers & fishermans..Valero has no defense at all. Pac will KO him in first round.
Are you trying to get Valero killed? Know your boxing.
Theres no way mannys health has failed. His speed times in trainning have not slipped with the increase in weight and his hand eye coordination has obviously gotten better. Anyone can see that and the punch stats back it up. Valero is trying to cash out before he has to throw it in due to the medical situation. Pac vs Mayweather is the ONLY fight Manny should fight!
valero has no defense….pacman will kill him.
see the fight against mosquera if that knockdown of his came from pacman’s fist……..probably he will end up in mental hospital
just i want to see the fight of money pacyaw against mini gayweather
1st fight soto!!! then you have a 1 percent chance of fighting pacquiao.
Valero lost his credibility as an athlete just recently. He beat his father, mother and an uncle during a domestic altercation.
If you really want him, you can seek for a promoter other than Atty. Arum. Arum called Valero a “..”.
hell no! i can fight 100 cab driver and stay undefeated. lol. it doesn’t work that way, and besides he needs to prove himself first by working his way up and not just fighting tuktok drivers.
Valero is slow. He’s not an exciting fighter and there’s no money in this fight.
Valero should take on Katsidis, Juan Diaz then Marquez in that order and KO all of them so that a fight with Manny will be interesting.
But I think it will be too late after beating PBF Jr., Mannys last fight will probably be against Mosely if he gets past Berto.
Valero should look and fight other class b fighters first so he can prove that he is a worthy opponent. Valero looks like a Dmitry Salita to me, the only difference is with there KO’s. Salita’s record is 30 wins 0 loss and 16 KO before his fight with Amir. 30 wins and all are unknowns.
25 bum fights then a big jump to number 1 boxer in the world. That’s too much, Pacquiao did not became the number 1 boxer in the world overnight. Also beating Barrera did give him that, Pacquiao earned it by defeating the best out there. If Valero wants to be like Pacquiao try earning it by beating good boxers and not asking to fight Pacquiao so you can be someone.
[...] that I had for the Venezuelan boxer. I was one of Valero’s biggest fans; I wrote an article suggesting Manny Pacquiao give Edwin Valero a chance to fight him. I wanted to see Valero vs. Pacquiao, two warriors going at it, toe-to-toe, not Valero beating on [...]
