Pacquiao’s change in demeanor, Cotto the quintessential family man
By Lou Block
As the 2nd episode of HBO 24/7 Pacquiao/Cotto finished up, it is evident that Manny Pacquiao is not focused and enjoying his life as a celebrity more than being a boxer. Miguel on the other hand is focused, hungry, and a great family man.
When you get a glimpse of some of Manny Pacquiao’s training and sparring you can see his lack of focus. Last episode you could already see his unraveling by disobeying roach on training location. This episode you see him getting toyed with in sparring against Shawn Porter and Jose Luis Castillo, Pacquiao was getting beat up on the ropes and hit clean.
Roach had to scold Pacman for his lazy performance as the red faced Pacquiao could barely look in Freddie’s eyes out of shame.
Another moment when you see Manny act out of character was when he is doing his conditioning training with Alex Ariza, Manny tells Ariza “Shut the F— up Alex” and keeps using the curse word while laughing at him. The lack of respect for Ariza and Roach was captured by the HBO crew.
This came as a shock since Pacquiao is a devout Christian and rarely cursed before.
Miguel Cotto is a man on a mission. He has a close family and shows the class and dignity of a great legend like Joe Louis. Cotto’s love for his family brought a smile to my face and his focus to bring honor to his country of Puerto Rico was to be admired.
Miguel is a man of few words but he obeys his trainers, with no complaint he wakes up early in the morning at Phil Landman’s command and goes through the usual strength and conditioning routine.
A touching moment was at the golf course and you could see the bond between generations, Grandfather, Son, and Grandson. The respect Miguel has for his father and the respect and admiration that Miguel’s son has for him is a heart warming moment as they enjoy a day of golf.
Toward the end of the episode Miguel Sr. had a confession, it was very tough for Miguel Sr. having to pick between his son and his brother(Evangelista). Evangelista was the trainer for Miguel and Uncle but they had a much publicized altercation that became physical and they parted ways on bad terms. Miguel Sr. did not want to break the family apart but had to choose his son over his brother. Hopefully one day they can find a way to repair things in the future.
How can you not cheer for a guy like Miguel Cotto? The man is a great asset to boxing, he gives this sport a good name.

tottatly agree cotto a great person. hope he wins.
Cotto–the uncle beater. Such an upstanding, quintessential family man. LOLOLOL.
Cotto is gaining the respect of my fellow Americans.
He is gonna have me rooting for him and knowing his dad served in the Army for 25 years.
I am a white man but I gotta go for Cotto he is a very classy guy.
I never cared much for Pacquiao he always bugged me for some reason.I just find him annoying for some reason.
Arum also noticed some other differences between the camps.
“In Pacquiao’s camp, there is no question who the boss is and that’s Freddie,” Arum said. “In Miguel’s camp there’s no question who the boss is either, and that’s Miguel. They’re different guys, different fighters, but whatever works, man.

MIGUEL COTTO IS THE KING!
GREAT ARTICLE, I AGREE WHEN YOU SAID HOW CAN YOU NOT CHEER FOR COTTO!
NOVEMBER14 IS THE NIGHT WHEN THE FLIPS ARE GONNA SHED HEAVY TEARS.
wahhhh wahhhhh wahhhhh
are you a great person if you BEAT YOUR UNCLE?
nuff said.
@EL JEFE…
You are a racist and a bigot. Why not show your boxing loyalty without using racial and derogatory words.
lol, cotto a family man.. regardless of the dramatizations though, love watching 24/7
Hey Bisdak
you wanna take a shot at cotto like that you coward?
HOW ABOUT WHEN MANNY CHEATED ON HIS WIFE? HOW ABOUT THAT?
SO SHUT YOUR MOUTH UP AND STOP BRINGING PERSONAL SHIT ON COTTO HE AND HIS UNCLE HAD DISSAGREEMENTS OK
NOW I REALLLYYYYYYYY CANT WAIT TO SEE YOU CRY ON NOVEMBER 14….WATCH YOU FOR THAT STATEMENT YOU MADE COTTO IS NO JOKE ACCEPT THAT
YOU BETTER KISS MY HAIRY TOES WHEN PAC LOSES.
well, its certainly good to see HBO provide a personal introduction to Cotto . . as this is his maiden 24/7. Shows the family man who strives to do well in the more important aspects in life, notwithstanding, the incredible demands for a top boxer.
All the news about Pac Monster is fairly consistent with the news coming out in the Philippines during Pac’s first month of training. The last sparring session in Manila was reported, but Pac just came from Baguio at the time (8 hours drive maybe more due to weather and traffic) . . hardly any rest, and had to perform against his sparring partners that came earlier with Roach. The positive side i see, is that Roach does not hide anything. Shows the sparring sessions, tells his boxer straight up that he is not focused, or is performing lousy (just like a father giving his son an honest to goodness talk/assessment). However, most of the recent news (past wk or so) have been positive, with Roach already predicting a KO, so should not take that earlier angle of 24/7 too heavily.
Lets hope these two great ring warriors are at their top form when they meet Nov 14 . . its fight of the year possibility around it.
With the right amount of editing hbo could make Santa clause look like a drunken home-invader and Charles Manson look like a kind, caring person.
I’m sure that both of these men are very focused. Cotto I’m sure wants to prove to all his critics that he is not washed up and that Pacquiao, finally, has bitten off more than he can chew.
Conversely, I hope that this offer realizes that if Manny wins this fight, he will surpass the all-time great weight jumper, Henry Armstrong, in titles in multiple weight classes. Sure, a title might not mean quite what it did in Hanks day, but you’d have to think, with a career-defining fight like this, Manny is very focused! Even if he has a few lapses which hbo catches on film.
It was obvious to me that Pacquiao was probably kidding around with Ariza. Who knows what was said in the seconds leading up to the “incident”.
Cotto, himself, has admitted to enjoying the nightlife and a drink. “Shocking”! He is a god-fearing, family man, right?
I am actually cheering for both men. I want Cotto to shut the mouths of everybody who had the audacity to believe that the former 106 pounder can move up and beat HIM. The welterweight champ?
Well, one of them.
I want Manny Pacquiao to move up yet again.
Only to annihilate his bigger, slower foe.
Thus, once more lifting the collective pride of the Phillipines.
Perhaps, give his battered countrymen cause for celebration.
I want it to be an exciting, historicalt fight. Which I know it will be.
After all, when it’s said and done, hype never wins a fight.
good read
I am enjoying this 24-7 so far
Cotto is really coming off as a great person which is good so he will have more people for him.
I myself just wanna see a good fight.
may the best man win
That exchange between between Pacquiao and Ariza was nothing but playful banter. Something me and my close friends do all the time…
Marked
What kind of friend do you have are you from a gang?
I am 55 years old and I never cussed at my friend like that or have they cussed at me like that.
That is for Low Class people, Cotto presented himself as a true role model.
I hope he knocks out Manny Pacquiao.
Let’s make this clear before you say that cotto is a good person shsh… zip(lip)..zip.. COTTO AN UNCLE BEATER; before you say pacquiao said f**k and he’s a bad before you should think first hmmm…thats not that bad since COTTO AN UNCLE BEATER; before you say anything bad about a person thinks this….is it worse than COTTO BEATING HIS UNCLE? hmmm…maybe not.

this people accused pac based on what they see on hbo 24/7. but they never accused gayweather based on what they see on reality. i hope you know more about pac that us his countryman. are you judging a person based on what you see on TV? did cooto risk his lifefor his countrymen? how about beating an old uncle? man pac never beat anybody outside the ring. he even respect cotto and praise him but cotto never respect and praise pacman. how good are you to judge a human being just based on TV?
Cotto the family man! Yeah, right! He already admitted in episode 1 he wasn’t a good husband!
El Jefe of the Gorillas,
Kiss your hairy toes? Dang, you’re not human!!! Ahihihihi!!
Hey, Lou Cinderella Block,
I noticed you didn’t include your moniker ‘Cinder’ in your name anymore. What happened? Finally admitted you’re not man enough to be called a ‘Cinder?’ Ahihihihihihi!
Hey, Lou Cinderella Block,
Once again, you made a masterpiece… of viciousness against the name of Pacquiao.
Pac fans getting into your head? I love reading your articles about Pacquiao. You don’t dissapoint! I could feel your seething anger towards Pacman’s fans. I’m imagining you banging away your keyboard with full force almost breaking it as you typed down your piece. Each article you produce is becoming a mirror image of Manuela Perez’s wacko commentaries. Are you two lovers? Bwahahahahahahaha!
Hanson, Pacquiao got to Manila before his sparring partners. Remember in 24/7 he left in the middle of the night before roach could do anything and roach asked him not to do it. After Manny left at night roach and the sparring partners went to manila in the morning.
So Pac should have been well rested back then unless he went partying or something.
YO,BisDak
It won’t justify that Cotto did not have the advantage, but Evangelista thru the first blow. I’m right here on the island, miutes away from the gym and like many others not related to the media, know the TRUE facts. As bad as it may sound, if you want to get technical. Cotto did the right thing by defending himself. What would you have done if your uncle punched you, with the intentions of causing you harm.
Cotto a quintessential family man??? Tsk, tsk, tsk. Again, Lou Cinderella Block, you’re not doing your homework! Review episode 1 where he admitted he’s not a good husband to his wife, Melissa.
My first time here and probably my last. This article is the most biased article I have read. This guy took Ariza and Pacquiao’s playful banter out of context. Obviously does not like Pacquiao. I’m not a Pacquiao fan and would prefer Cotto to win but this article seems a little unprofessional.
What a load of craap. Exaggerating what was shown on 24/7. Lousy article.
Hey, Lou Cinderella Block!
I have nothing against Cotto and his fans. He’s a good boxer with one loss. That loss in doubt because of possible cheating by his opponent during that bout. His fight against Pacquiao on Nov. 14th will be exciting, definitely, and might be the fight of the year.
My beef is against this writer when he is exaggerating and at the same time omit a lot of facts.
Like this for instance: Cotto QUINTESSENTIAL family man! Really?!?! When he was interviewed on episode 1, he admitted he and his wife, Melissa, separated three years ago. Considering his children are now 13 (Luis), 10 (Alondra) and 8 (Miguel III) years old, respectively, they, his children, were the victims of this unfortunate event, highly traumatized, I believe, by this incident when it happened. I couldn’t help but ask the question: Hmmm… did Cotto abandon his family? Cotto added they are just starting new chapters in their lives in light of the fact that they are back together, again.
Now, can you call that QUINTESSENTIAL – the most perfect embodiment of a family man?
Eley Dude
Why are you so furious over this article? I don’t see anything wrong with it.
HBO showed cotto talking about family so where is the wrong in the article. Go watch the 24/7 so far Cotto talks about how he learned to have a good family plenty of times from his father and how important family is.
Stop getting sensitive man.
I like Pacquiao too but you are going to far this guy lou is not a dumb ass like manuel perez the faker on that other site who has multpiple writers talking shit on pac.
just let this guy have his opinion I see nothing wrong with it.
Lets just root for our guy and move on.
Tovar,
My beef is with the writer. As for the article, just letting him see how twisted his creation is by showing Cotto’s infidelity with his marriage.
Furious? Just like I said, I’m loving it. It shows the character of the man who wrote it: infuriated with pacman’s fans calling him names hehehehe!!!!
Eley Dude
Lou just seems a bit ignorant he doesn’t seem like he is out just to insult pacquiao.
Let us just educate the ignorant bro.
I hope this Loud Block guy learns more that the Filipino is a great people too and many are good family man including Manny.
Tovar,
Amen to that.
WOW UR ARTICLE SUCKS LMAO
