Americans should support Mayweather Jr. the same way the Filipinos support Pacman

I am not a big fan of Floyd Mayweather’s personality but the man has true skill and talent in the ring.

For those of you who were able to catch HBO’s Joe Buck Live,  Floyd said he would like the American people to stand behind him like they support the troops.

Take away Floyd’s brash personality and arrogant money flaunting, deep down he is 100 percent proud to be an American!

His Las Vegas gym has an American Flag painted on it and he always supports the US military and feeds the homeless American Citizens every week.

He truly loves the United States of America, he even represented the U.S.A  in the 1996 Olympics receiving a bronze medal for boxing.

The thing that American culture lacks in this day and age is Patriotism.  It is almost considered uncool to go for the American or to wear an American flag shirt, people automatically think you are a right wing conservative if you do.

If you notice the British, the Filipino and the Mexican fight fans will travel abroad just to show support for their fighter.

I know many Americans who root for Manny Pacquiao but from what I seen the entire country of the Philippines is going for Manny Pacquiao.  I don’t think I have even seen any Filipino rooting for Mayweather Jr.

Nothing against Manny Pacquiao but on March 13, 2010 I will be rooting for America’s best, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Floyd is a fraud – why would anybody root for a fraud!

I’m American, and I damn sure will not be rooting for a load mouth fraud. Floyd does not represent America!

    Proud to be an American!

Good for you! I’ll root for Pacquiao & it has nothing to do about his race but because I share the same values and upbringing like him. He sacrificed & worked hard to get where he’s at, no shortcuts in life. A foreigner capturing the American audience by his sheer audacity to face every inconceivable challenge to make his mark in his chosen field of profession, without any excuses. Yet with all the achievements he maintained his humility and faith. And that my friend who I will be supporting come March 13th!

When Pacquiao fights, he fights for his country. Mayweather doesn’t fight for his country. He arrogantly admits doing it for the money. So, why would I support this selfish person.

Terrible article. I’m American and I am for sure rooting for Pacquiao. Floyd do not represent America. Your argument is bull. If anything Floyd represents all that is bad in America, arrogance, entitlement, disrespect, gutless, all about money. Pac represents the good in America, respect, humbleness, hard work, care for fellow human being, heart, patience and dedication.

This article doesn’t make sense. Floyd cares about is himself. If you gave him 60 bucks, he’ll turn around and laugh to the bank. The only reason Floyd wants americans to cheer for him is becuase he is jealous that a “little” man with humble beginnings with a ferocious apetite in excelling on what he does and not forget the people that got him there is supported not only in the Philippines but most countries in the world. Floyd just wants a piece of “that action” but in this case, he is demanding that same respect from americans becuase he says he is “american”. It’s almost insulting. “You got to support me becuase I’m American.” That’s BullSH%T.

I used to be a huge Manny Pacquiao fan been following him since the Barera fight.
But lately I cannot enjoy Manny the same way, because after seeing comments on here and other sites like youtube it hurts me.

I never knew that Filipinos could be so racist, seeing how they were saying N&gger, Monkey and all thise racist stuff shocked me.

I thought because Filipinos looked black and had dark brown skin wide nose and wide lips they would be able to relate with the blacks in America.

but they seem to think they are superior to us, they need to look in the mirror because they are not white or better.

Here’s Manny Pacquiao belting out a song, “Sometimes When We Touch” for Lil’ Floyd Mayweather

(Don’t know the tune? Go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fadtvZCh4ys)

They asked you if you’ll fight me
And you choked on your reply
I’d rather Arum deal with you
Than mislead you with a lie
And who am I to judge you,
On what you say or do
    The fans are just beginning
    To see the real you

    And someday when we tats
My LEFT will be too much
That you have to close your eyes and hide
I wanna hit you til you sigh
Til your face breaks down and cry
    I wanna beat you
    Til your sorry ass subsides!

You think you are a strategist
    Yet Roach is my surprise
    But through your insecurities
    Your no-loss is your pride
    You’re just another fighter
So far from what is true
    An overrated boxer
    Who never gives his due

    And someday when we tats
My RIGHT will be too much
That you have to close your eyes and hide
I wanna spank you til you sigh
Til your face breaks down and cry
    I wanna smack you
    Till your silly ass subsides!

At times I’d like to break you
And drive you to your knees
The fans would like to watch you
    And see your first defeat

    Your trainers understand you
And I know how hard they try
I’ve watched your Dad protect you
And your Uncle loves to smile

My coach thinks you’re a loser
    Still searching for a break
You think your odds are better
But then the public bets AGAINST!

    And someday when we tats
My SPEED will be too much
That you have to close your eyes and hide
I wanna slam you til you sigh
Til your face breaks down and cry
    I wanna punch you
    Till your cocky ass subsidesssssssss!!!!!!

There’s NO WAY I can support FraudWeather simply because this is NOT USA vs Philippines. This is all about FraudWeather getting more money so that he can gamble some more. PAC’s demeanor (e.g. humility in victory, respectful, etc.) is more American than Fraudweather.

I root for neither fighter, they could both end up dead in the ring for all I care. Mayweather is a loudmouth and arrogant which is truly despicable. But Pacquiao is not a saint either, don’t believe his PR machine! He, humble? Folks, you just don’t know. In a poor country like the Philippines, he openly flaunts his riches and rubs it in. During his last bout against Hatton, he paid 27 million pesos (that’s more than half a million US dollars) to ferry his rich friends to America and pay their hotel accomodations just to watch the fight, yet could only shell out 3,000 pesos (that’s less than 100 dollars) to each of the 30 bombing victims in his province; he impregnated a woman and tried to run away from his responsibilities to support the woman and the child; openly bets by the millions in cock derbies amidst extreme poverty in his country; and now openly maintains a scandalous affair with a movie starlet, humiliating his wife and family in the public. Humble, eh? So, folks, when you hear talks of Pacquiao being humble or generous, don’t believe it. Hey, I should know, I am a Filipino! But one who won’t condone bad behavior in the name of nationalism.

Fred = is former entourage of Manny Pacquiao who got the boot. Now he’s all butt hurt hence the bashing. Seriously, puhhhlease, MP has done more positive things in his community that PBF. Donating money to put up schools and setting up charities. So what if he flew in family and friends to watch him fight and paid for the accomodations. You expect him to donate all the money he makes to charity?

As for PBF, I’m a fan of his skills–period, nothing else. I’m going for Manny because of his skills, demeanor, and the accomplishments he has made. He started off as 106 lb boxer in the PI and moved his way up with hard work. Coming from the squatters of General Santos and trying to make a living. Trust me, I know what he’s been through, as I’ve witnessed and collaborated with the barangay kids on my street back in the days.

You’re probably some mistiso punk who was spoon fed until you were 12 and had maids washing your @$$ and cleaning up after you. It’s your kind I despise who talk down to the peons and place yourself in that high horse. Please, put that silver spoon back in your mouth spoiled brat.

Floyd and Manny are my favorite boxers in the sport. I’ve followed Floyd since they first started broadcasting his fights. I’ve followed Manny since they first started broadcasting his fights.

I have a serious problem with any attempt of making this a USA vs. Philippines thing. It’s a boxing match, plain and simple. The Philippines is probably THE biggest supporter of the US (as far as Asian countries are concerned), so making this a contest of National pride is absolutely absurd.

Does Floyd realize that the Filipinos helped the US beat Japan in WWII? Does he realize that, were it not for the Philippines allowing the US to establish bases there, the US as it currently exists would not necessarily be the same? ALL of my grandfathers fought for the US in WWII. They were POW’s in the Death March in Bataan. AND I’m probably not the ONLY Filipino that has the same type of family background.

I was born and raised in the US, in one of the most culturally diverse cities in America (Los Angeles). To bring Nationalism or National Pride into this is completely absurd, considering MAJORITY of the country is compiled of immigrants or decendents of immigrants…from other countries!

I really do hope that Floyd keeps that spin out of the promotion for the fight because it will make me lose respect for him.

This fight will never be about America against the Philippines. Mayweather’s plea is not to fight for Americans, it’s a plea for more money. 2% or less will actually believe it, if it were pitched.

The vast majority of the People (Americans included) will support Pacquiao rather than Mayweather. Mayweather’s persona of the bad guy image was deliberate to create ticket sales. And after he creates this image he has the nerve to cry about not getting enough love. What a pathetic fool!

Time and time again entertainment has always shown that good guy bad guy sells. No one need pity Mayweather because he gets less love. He values money more than his fans. That’s what he wants and that is what he will get. Mayweather is well aware of the entertainment game.

Pacquiao’s image is genuine because he doesn’t know how to play the game. He lives it.

Manny came from TWICE the “ghetto” that Mayweather claims to be from but Manny developed his character into 3X that of the whole Mayweather family. This is not a matter of national allegiance, its a matter of who’s got the balls to put it all on the line and give fight fans what they wanna see. Unfortunately, Mayweather would prefer simply to cash those checks instead of putting the hopes of a whole nation on his shoulders, fight for God, and family. Does that sound American enough to you? You be the judge…

Seriously, keep doubting Manny Pacquiao. It’s worked so well for you in the past.
