Floyd Mayweather Jr. Will Expose Manny Pacquiao’s Weaknesses

The proposed Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao  fight hasn’t even been made yet but people are already putting big money on the Pacman.  Pacquiao is the betting favorite, for me that’s even better cause I would bet a significant amount of money on a Floyd Mayweather Jr. victory.

I am not here to insult Manny or discredit his wins, I am simply talking strategic weaknesses in the Filipino slugger.

Pacquiao without question is the most exciting fighter on the planet right now.

Mayweather is the best, most skilled boxer of today or even all time.

The reasons why this would be Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s easiest fight yet are as follows:

1) Manny Pacquiao doesn’t do well against right hand dominant fighters.

If you watched Pacman’s fights against Marquez and the first fight with Erik Morales which Pacquiao lost, you will notice how they were able to offset Pacquiao with the right hand and land it at will.  Pacquiao is a southpaw and you need a good right hand counter against southpaws, Mayweather Jr. has one of the best right hand counters in the game.  Pacquiao looked great against left hand dominant fighters in David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and recently Miguel Cotto, but struggled against  right hand dominant Juan Manuel Marquez in both fights which he arguably lost but was given a gift draw and gift split decision in the rematch.

2) Manny Pacquiao cannot fight backing up.

Going back to the first Erik Morales fight, which was a blueprint on how to effectively defeat the little southpaw muscle monster, Pacquiao had no answer when Morales bullied him back to the ropes with combination’s.  Pacquiao would just cover up and try to move away but he had no answer to nullify the attack,  Pacquiao went on to beat Morales 2 times after this but Morales was a shell of himself.

3) Manny Pacquiao cannot handle a slick boxer who can move around the ring.

When have we seen Pacman face a slick, quick, intelligent boxer who could get on his bike and counter punch?  Never.  I believe that has to do with Freddie Roach’s brilliant handling of his fighter, every trainer knows their fighters weakness and Roach has handled Pacman’s career impressively, Roach has said any fighter who moves forward and can be hit and tries to bully Manny he likes because he knows Manny will knock them out.  The list of crafty fighters that Pacquiao was protected from include: Joan Guzman at 130 lbs, Nate Campbell at 135 lbs, and Shane Mosley at 147 lbs.  Going back to the Cotto fight in the last rounds of the bout Pacquiao shown that he was frustrated at Miguel Cotto,  Pacquiao had stopped in the ring when he found it difficult to catch Cotto, Cotto was moving on his bike and made Pacman irritated.  Floyd Mayweather Jr. can do that all fight, so if Manny was frustrated by Cotto going on his bike,  how much more confused would he be against the smart slick fighter Money May?

4) Manny Pacquiao would play right into Floyd’s game, Pacman will have no answer for the shoulder roll defense.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a counter puncher.  Floyd does his best when a guy comes at him and leaves himself open for quick counters.  Pacquiao doesn’t clinch or fight on the inside he fights in spurts but when he hurts you he goes all out and throws 20 to 30 punch combos trying to finish you off.  If Manny tries to do those multipunch combos on Floyd’s defensive shell, he will tire out and Floyd will pick him apart when Manny tries to take a breather.  Many have tried to smother Floyd Mayweather Jr. but no one could effectively consistently break his defense and land any combo on him.  Floyd has never been hit clean with a multipunch combo in his career he has gotten caught with  a good punch once and a while but he won’t be hit the way Miguel Cotto was hit or Oscar De La Hoya when they fought Manny Pacquiao.

5) Manny Pacquiao is a one dimensional come forward fighter, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a man with many dimensions.

There have been many great one dimensional fighters in boxing history, one example is Mike Tyson he was a devastating offensive fighter who only fought coming forward.  Name a time when you seen Mike Tyson get on his bike, throw multiple jabs in a fight or counter punch a guy on the back foot?  Manny Pacquiao is the miniature version of Tyson but with a better resume, and a better offensive arsenal.  I rank Pacman way higher than Mike Tyson on my all time list, but both guys are one dimensional, meaning they only fight coming forward.  Floyd Mayweather Jr. on the other hand is a special fighter, he is so talented and intelligent that he can make a fight look like a sparring session and not even have a scratch or mark on his face.  People need to understand that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has it all, he can box, he can fight backing up, he has underated punching power, he has a solid chin, he has great stamina and ring IQ,  I could go on and on.  Many people say he is boring or non-aggressive, if that is his only flaw then I would take it as a compliment.  Floyd will utilize those tools against Pacquiao, Sugar Ray Leonard was able to confuse and frustrate Roberto Duran in the rematch, I see the same  frustration for Manny if he faces Floyd Jr. in an HBO mega fight.

Freddie Roach is brilliant trainer becaused he manufactured a mega fight for his boxer. However if what everybody says about PBF is true then the only way he will take this fight if he knows that he can win. So how quick PBF agrees to terms for this fight wil be an indicator of what he thinks about pacman chances of beating him by the way I agree with everything Mr. Wang says.

I agree that Mayweather is the safer bet, but even Mayweather knows that this will be his toughest fight. Mayweather’s chin and power are underrated, but so is Manny’s hand speed and unusual rhythm. Floyd knows Manny is not a one dimensional slugger. That is a mind game. Floyd is probably in the gym right now training his ass off.

The one thing I would put in Manny’s favor is Roach. He’s been able to swing and miss on how to beat Mayweather and I think he has a good chance of using Manny’s unorthodox style and speed to make the fight uncomfortable for Floyd. Meanwhile, who the hell is Floyd going to spar with to get him used to Manny’s movement. He’ll have to do it in the ring. Not out of his range of ability, but a tall order for both fighters.

    1) Manny Pacquiao doesn’t do well against right hand dominant fighters.

    - How can he not do well, he beat and even retired almost all right handed hall of famers of his time, 5 of them. unlike mayweather who only fought 2. the one being exploiting a smaller fighter than him (marquez). heck he even cheated on the weight.

    2) Manny Pacquiao cannot fight backing up.

    - Why the hell would manny fight backing up. backing up are for sissies.

    3) Manny Pacquiao cannot handle a slick boxer who can move around the ring.

    - He hasn’t yet. So that remains to be seen. But the Cotto annihilation was a grim preview of gayweather’s fate. Even cycling back pacquiao beat up cotto. remember cotto’s face? im sure mayweather is dreading now.

    4) Manny Pacquiao would play right into Floyd’s game, Pacman will have no answer for the shoulder roll defense.

    - I’d love to see how Roach teaches manny to dislocate floyd’s shoulder.

    5) Manny Pacquiao is a one dimensional come forward fighter, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a man with many dimensions.

    - Floyd is also 1 dimensional. backwards though which is the most boring to watch every time.

if you want to go to sleep, watch mayweather. if you want to get your heart pumping, watch pacquiao.

Manny Pacquiao is so strong and brave when he goes out there with his giant, hittable, Asian head. It’s so impressive when he out-speeds slower, pre-broken, ex-greats coming off of devastating losses! Back when he was a lightweight, watching him go shot for shot with come forward Mexican fighters really proved to me that he could hit a wall moving at him. The way he throws his hands around like a cartoon character is so menacing, especially when he’s leaving the aforementioned head and brittle ribs wide open in the process! His short little legs shuffle around like an excited basset hound – I’m sure they’ll be effective enough to catch Floyd’s gazelle-like stride. His game plan of getting hit by Cotto at Cotto’s will, before, during and after Cotto had a Marguerito flashback, really showed Manny’s range. And that mustache! He is so handsome. No wonder he never gets tired. Who could get tired of that mustache? Did you know he grew up in the streets, unlike 99% of the world’s pugilists? That means he is tough. And Freddie Roach is the Bill Belacek of boxing. Does the other team have a chance? No, just ask Hopkins and De La Hoya. Manny will cut through Mayweather’s shoulder like butter with Roach’s help. Mayweather won’t be able to smack his gargantuan head around and then hold him, because he’s… lefty, and hits harder than Zab Judah and Mike Tyson.

    2. Floyd’s a one dimensional fighter too bro, he can’t fight coming forward.

    3. Oh and Freddie Roach wud be begging for Floyd to do his “shoulder roll defense” all night, he knows that crap just won’t work with Manny lol!

    4. Joan Guzman, Nate Campbell??? Puhleeeez!

    5. Manny stopped in the middle of the ring because Cotto wasn’t throwing anymore punches,he was just backpeddling. If Floyd did that all night, Manny wouldn’t be able to catch him most definitely, but then again Floyd wouldn’t be throwing punches either. The sport of Boxing wudn’t be called by that name if you did’t throw punches, if ‘DEFENDING” is the name of the game & not “BOXING”, then Floyds definitely champ, you fucking Chink…

P.S. You’re Bruce Lee ain’t got nuthin on Manny, Pac’s the real deal, your boy’s make believe… kung-fu crap that never works, lol!

this article really came from someone who doesn’t know boxing… mr wang, you forgot to put your analysis when manny was fighting 10 years ago… huh! what a 5tup1d writer…

manny is a different boxer everytime he steps in the ring and still getting better and stronger… mayweather is an easy fight compared to cotto… “dont forget the comment from pacman… mayweather’s dad needs to warn his son because it will be a painful fight for the gayweathers…’

the only thing that I am worrying right now is if PBF will schedule the fight on may 2010 which he knows that manny wont make it since he’s running for congress… PBF is pretending he is not scared of pacman but in reality the mayweather’s are now scared!!!

pinoy power… pacman will rule again!!!

Yeah, the chinaman is soooooo right! Thats why all of Pacman’s last opponents had that dazed look after each fight and most had faces that looked like newly plowed cornfields! Pacman stood before Cotto and actually absorbed the hardest punch of the champion (ex)- and he’s supposed to be be a hard puncher that Floyd is afraid of. Me thinks Floyd is also afraid of the Pacman.

Freddie Roach is only a good when it comes to training Manny Pacquiao. When he trained B-Hop for the fight against Calzaghe he lost, and when he trained Oscar for his fight against Floyd he lost aswell; by the way he said he had an answer for the shoulder roll then too. People say Mayweather Jr only picks people he can beat; well if that is true he’s seen what all of us people who actually know boxing has seen. It is a totally different fight when you are not fighting a boxer who is willing to slug with you, and Manny Pacquiao will find that out the hard way. I just fear that his fans will turn that back on boxing after the one sided beating he recieves from Mayweather Jr.

PACMAN is a great fighter but Mayweather is a skillful boxer. It does not take only strengh or strong and agressiveness to dominate a talented boxer like Mayweather. PACMAN needs more than just throwing hard punches to overpower the talented Mayweather. Note: Pacman will be frustrated and be easily knocked out by the Pretty Boy. Mayweather is faster, smarter, swifter, more skilled and very strong, so let that day decides for itself. Pacman will never ever be rated number one in the world after 03/13/2010.

Anyone that says Cotto used the shoulder roll defense is thinking quite wishfully. First of all, he would’nt be able to do it even if he tried, which he didn’t. Second of all, shoulder roll d cannot be used against a fighter that has the opposite stance. So shoulder roll is out. Mayweather does not need to shoulder roll against Pac and I gaurantee he won’t use it much. Mayweather knows how to keep his hand high and fire fast straight rights and counters. He can pot shot a lefty but he will more than likely stalk Pacquiao intelligently, but still move in and out of range. He will go Pacquiao body move to his left which is Pacquiao’s right. He will be looking to both lead and counter with the over hand right. Roach knows this and he is not sure what to do about it. This is why they want more time to prepare.

Excellent breakdown, every point is very well thought out.

I am Asian and would love for a Filipino to be the world’s undisputed pound for pound, universally recognized, but Mayweather Jr. is extremely gifted and in my opinion, has way more tools in the ring. Pacquiao doesn’t do well when fighting someone who is intent on not “fighting” but boxing.

I pray Manny wins. Good article.

I read trashes like this before each of Pacman’s last four fights. And we all know what happened: people who give out these trashes all eat their words.

Comes fight night, the rolling shoulder of Floyd, which this writer said that Manny has no answer to, will be cracked by Pacquiao’s crisp right straight and crushing left hooks, right to the bone. After a while, when this shoulder cannot roll anymore and is hopelessly dangling, Manny’s fists would bust the trashtalker’s mouth. The bloodied mouth will then try to murmur, after the fight, that: “I AM BEATEN BY THE BEST FIGHTER THERE IS”. And the writer, TAN WANG, will disappear from circulation for quite sometime to heal his bruised ego.

Week argument then why didnt Morales beat pac the 2nd or 3rd time. Is it because Pac has become even better? Funny how pac KO’ed Morales II in the 10th round and Morales III in the 3rd round getting better with each fight. Is it because he was dominating a right hand dominant fighter. Funny he KO’d Morales as he was backing up hehehe your theory’s suck!! And believe me nothing is protecting that shoulder if pac decides to pop that shoulder and dislocate it he will cause nothing is protecting that shoulder. So much for the shoulder roll!!hahaha Hatton said the same thing about pac being 1 dimensional until Hatton got Knockdown by the right hook hehehe and so did Cotto. PBF will have to be careful with both fist instead of concentrating only his left like Marquez did!! Dont you know by now Pac is a complete fighter if you dont then your a jealous retarded moron!!!

Pac is a one-dimentional, come forward fighter? The man has better footwork that Mayweather. He also has good rotation around his opponents like a bee swarming a prey. DLH got so confused that he just gave up not knowing where to punch & where he is being punched from. Manny has much more power in both hands than Mayweather, and has an iron chin & body. Yes, he got frustrated by Cotto runnung away because he just wanted it to be over with knowing Cotto’s health was in jeopardy. Cotto on his bike was not part of the gameplan, mind you. He just wanted to make the distance. Finally, you keep bringing up the pre-Marquez days when Manny was a brawler. After the last fight with Marquez, Pac became a tactician killer. He would kill Marquez in welterweight and make Floyd’s victory look whack the way he did with Hatton. Mark my words: Pac will KO Mayweather, & Pac won’t even feel his punches.

Here’s the advantages of Floyd Badweather Sr.’s loudmouth clone:

    1. 6″ reach advantage
    2. Naturally heavier than packy
    3. 2″ taller than packy
    4. Fast runner (could even beat track race champion)
    5. perceived to be naturally stronger than packy
    6. the best ever defensive fighter of all time that no fighter ever can defeat.

While packy was just a small, one dimensional and unskilled fighter.

Know what? I’ll be going with the smaller, naturally weaker, one dimensional and unskilled fighter named PACQUIAO. And once he has defeated floyd who has all these much much greater advantages over him(the much smaller and weaker guy pacman), the world will stand-up in AWE and great ASTONISHMENT. As if witnessing a poodle killing an alpha male lion.

The impossible feat made possible. The question is how can he do it.

And the answer will be A SURPRISE ONE. PAC THE POODLE WILL SURPRISE FLOYD THE LION.

emilio, I don’t think anyone sees Pac as a “poodle.” More like a Wolverine. No one wants to mess with Wolverines despite their small stature. I don’t think anyone sees Mayweather as a “Lion,” either, since he’s a punch-and-run, defensive counter-puncher (who doesn’t even have overwhelming power). He’s more of a vicious house cat…that happens to be bigger than a Wolverine. LOL

manny pacquiao dont know how to fight backwards is a MYTH :) hahaha!
barrera, morales, diaz, odlh, hatton, cotto. All of them fall in the same trap!!!
manny pacquiao is a great pressure fighter in its own right.
he overcome fighting backwards by moving around the ring. he used lateral movements with great stinging jabs. All of there fighting styles are suited with the pacman. coming forward style. The only thing that could pose a problem with pacman is a counter puncher like marquez. Wait for pacman to make a mistake. but with the weight and age difference. I dont tink marquez can be effective as he is years ago.

manny pacquiao is 1 dimentional fighter is also a MYTH :) hahaha!
He throws the left punch in 2 flavors. 1 is a jab. the other one is a strong straight left. watch the previous fights and he use’s that well.

shoulder roll defense of floyd will be exposed because he’s fighting a southpaw. to make his shoulder roll effective with manny, floyd must stand like a southpaw and uses shoulder roll otherwise it will be ineffective. the defense floyd could used is he’s running technique and head movement. but aside from that i dont tink that shoulder roll will pose a problem with pacman.

1 is a jab. the other one is a strong straight left. watch the previous fight and he use’s that well.

shoulder roll defense of floyd will be exposed because he’s fighting a southpaw. to make his shoulder roll effective with manny, floyd must stand like a southpaw and uses shoulder roll otherwise it will be ineffective. the defense floyd could used is he’s running technique and head movement. but aside from that i dont tink that shoulder roll will pose a problem with pacman.

Just wait and see. No one, and I mean no one can look impressive in the ring with Mayweather. Pacquiao already looks awkward, Mayweather will only enhance that effect.

Manny has a very long night in store. March 13 is going to be a night of HELL for him!

Tan I disagree with you 100% and feel sorry for your opinions of Manny Vs Floyd. Manny well destroy Floyd & shut his trash talking mouth for good. Ask any1 they rather box Floyd n real life than the BEAST Manny. Manny has twice as much stamina & slightly faster than Floyd in hand speed that pack extra punching power. I would say by far that would be the hardest match-up for Floyd because Manny now in the present time is 3 dimensional boxer. Floyd should of lost his first match Vs Castillo but the judges robbed him. Watch Castillo Vs Floyd on http://www.youtube.com and you well believe me.

Manny is NOT faster than Mayweather. Manny isn’t even faster than JUDAH. Please know what you’re talking about before you speak.

I like Manny, but he loses against Mayweather. Way out of his league there. Hatton, De La Hoya, Cotto are fighters with no footwork, no defense, and no counterpunch ability. Cotto had the best shot, due to brute strength, but he’s just too slow and got peppered with shots.

Mayweather won’t even be there to hit. Period. G’night, Manny.
