The Pacquiao-Mayweather Feud Is Real Nothing Fake About It

People keep wondering if the Pacquiao-Mayweather feud is all staged hype to build up the fight.  I say “NO”,  for people who’ve been following this sport closely know that the Mayweather-Golden Boy camp do not get along with the Pacquiao-Top Rank camp.

Firstly, I would like to say Floyd “Money” Mayweather’s right hand man and CEO of Mayweather Promotions has handled himself professionally during the negotiations impasse for the scheduled March 13, 2010 showdown between the two best boxers of the decade Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.

Even though both sides have gone back and forth with insults, Leonard Ellerbe has remained rational and very cool under fire during these negotiations for the Pacquiao – Mayweather mega bout and he gets my utmost respect.

Both camps, the Mayweather side and the Pacquiao side have traded strong words through the media during this negotiation process.  They remind me of the famous feuding American families the Hatfield and McCoys.

I will try and break down the history of beef between all the parties involved for you casual fans who are interested.

Bob Arum the man who made Oscar De La Hoya the biggest box office draw in the sport and the man Oscar considered a father figure would later be one of Oscar’s biggest rivals.

Arum and Oscar split up when Oscar was starting up his own promotional suit.  Oscar would name his promotional company after his nickname “Golden Boy”.

When Oscar signed Marco Antonio Barrera to his promotional company in 2004, Marco’s first fight with them was against an unknown southpaw from the Philippines his name was Manny Pacquiao…this is the fight that made Pacquiao an overnight sensation in the boxing world.  Pacquiao a then one dimensional fighter would dominate the Mexican legend in every single round with a non stop barrage of punches and stop the lineal featherweight champion in round 11.  Some say Oscar’s dislike for Pacquiao began at this time when Pacquiao spoiled Oscar’s plans for Barrera and upset the Mexican legend.

Bob Arum also started the career of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and promoted him for many years until the two parted several years ago, Mayweather Jr. has said Arum never pushed him enough to make him a star and forced him to live in Oscar De La Hoya’s shadow.  Arum has made comments in the media saying Floyd Mayweather Jr. is scared to lose and that he is an ignorant kid who only cares about money.

The bad blood with Freddie Roach and the Mayweather family started when Floyd Mayweather Sr. hurled insults at Freddie Roach after Roach replaced Mayweather Sr. as Oscar De La Hoya’s head trainer and worked his corner for the 2007 fight versus Floyd Mayweather Jr.

During this time Floyd Sr. would refer to Freddie Roach as “The Joke Coach Roach”  and even wrote a poem about Roach that he shared during the Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather Jr. press conference.

Roger Mayweather the uncle and trainer to Mayweather Jr. also had harsh words for Pacquiao’s head trainer saying Roach was scared to spar with Roger Mayweather when they were younger and other insults to try and get under Roach’s skin but it didn’t work.

Roger would go a step further and insult the deceased legendary trainer and Roach mentor Eddie Futch.  Roach has stated many times that he would gladly fight Roger Mayweather in the street for those disrespectful remarks on Eddie Futch a man who passed away years ago and cannot defend himself.

Manny Pacquiao had gotten out of two promotional contracts with his first promoter Murad Muhammad and after that Gary Shaw before getting with Bob Arum and his Top Rank boxing promotions in 2006.

A few weeks before Manny Pacquiao was going to face Erik Morales in a rubbermatch, Oscar De La Hoya picked up Manny Pacquiao and his crew straight from the airport and drove directly to a steak house in Beverly Hills, this is when Oscar De La Hoya presented a suitcase filled with $250,000 in cash to Manny and a contract, Pacquiao who was still jet lagged and tired signed the contract and became a Golden Boy fighter.

Immediately after Oscar acquried Manny Pacquiao to his stable of fighters, he made a fatal mistake while everyone involved with the signing remained silent and hush to the media including Pacquiao himself, Oscar De La Hoya opened his big mouth and announced on various media outlets that he signed Manny Pacquiao and how it felt so good that he was able to get one up on Bob Arum his former promoter and current rival.

Bob Arum got news of this incident and was furious.  Right before the fight with Morales, Bob Arum was able talk with Manny Pacquiao privately and offered Manny Pacquiao a $1 million dollar signing bonus to sign a long term contract with Top Rank. On the day of the fight in the dressing room a few minutes before Pacquiao faced Morales it was announced that he was giving back his signing bonus to Golden Boy promotions and that he signed long term contract with Top Rank.

Golden Boy and Top Rank would both threaten to sue each other over Pacquiao.

The feud would end in 2007 when both sides were able to come to an agreement and settled a deal out of court.

Golden Boy would get certain promotional rights with Pacquiao but Top Rank would be the main promoter of the Pacman.

The feud seemed to be over and everyone was copacetic until Oscar De La Hoya would challenge the smaller Pacquiao to a fight at welterweight in 2008, Pacquiao was a replacement option when negotiations for a De La hoya-Mayweather rematch fell through and Mayweather retired.

Oscar stated that part of him wanted to teach Pacquiao a lesson for not honoring his word to Oscar De La Hoya when he signed the contract with Golden Boy back in 2006.

During this time a new feud would erupt and it was between Manny Pacquiao and Golden Boy CEO Richard Shaeffer.  During the press tour and negotiations Shaeffer would call Pacquiao a spoiled brat and even in the dressing room leading up to the fight Shaeffer would become defensive with Freddie Roach as he watched Oscar De La Hoya have his hands wrapped.

Shaeffer would take subtle shots at Pacquiao even during the Ricky Hatton vs. Pacquiao negotiations.  Pacquiao who rarely dislikes anyone has made it known that doesn’t get along with the Golden Boy CEO.

During the build up for the Ricky Hatton – Manny Pacquiao fight, Mayweather Sr. and Freddie Roach would go back and forth trading insults during press conferences and the HBO 24/7 series leading up to the fight.

On May 2, 2009 Manny Pacquiao destroyed Ricky Hatton by a devastating second round knockout.

A few months after the fight  Floyd Mayweather Sr. who trained Hatton started to accuse Pacquiao of using steroid or performance enhancing drugs, Pacquiao would ignore these allegations because he was getting ready to take on welterweight champion Miguel Cotto in November of 2009.

After Manny Pacquiao became a 7 division world champion and dominated Miguel Cotto for 12 rounds en route to a 12 round TKO, the steroid accusations became more prevalent.

The Mayweather family mainly Floyd Mayweather Sr. insisted that Pacquiao was on something, that no man coming from 106 pounds could come up look ripped and muscular, get stronger and faster as they go up in weight and take the punches of a bigger man the way Pacquiao did against Miguel Cotto.

Everything is real, the feud is real, the lawsuit filed by Pacquiao is real, this is no joke, there is real beef and bad blood between both camps.

Three questions need to be answered on March 13, 2010.

Are both fighters clean and drug free?

Who is the better trainer Roger Mayweather or Freddie Roach?

Who is the best fighter of the decade Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao?

Now all they have to do is make the fight happen and settle it in the ring once and for all.

    Mayweather Sr should produce proof that Manny is on drugs then I will believe him. Otherwise, this should not be use in the negotiation for the fight.

    I truly believe they have plan this to tried and ruin Manny’s reputation as the people around him does not get along from the beginning and Manny is the easy target to get to them. Poor Manny he is in the middle of it all.

    To the editors/writers: Please make a clarification to all readers that Manny Pacquiao IS NOT refusing to take the blood test. What MP is contesting is the FREQUENCY “RANDOM” procedure of taking the blood and the person administering it. Taking it from his previous experience where he lost because of his blood drawn few days before the fight is the real reason he does not want the “RANDOM” procedure.
    Personally, drawing blood after the fight is sufficient enough to detect any illegal substance. USADA is arguing that MP can eject masking agent before the blood drawn after the fight. Well, c’mon, this is no brainer. Just after the fight, they should assign cameras and people to watch MP on his every move and then draw the blood from him without letting him go away un-watched. Is this hard to do? If MP refuses this protocol then we can start accusing him. But to be fair, lets negotiate this to MP first and see what he says. I just cannot ignore every columns stating MP is refusing the blood test. THAT IS NOT TRUE.

    SECRET TO PACQUIAOS HGH/PED-LIKE POWER & PERFORMANCE is hidden in plain sight.

    While its true that pacman displays seemingly superhuman feats rarely seen in the sport, it would be dumb to attribute it to illegal chemical abuse simply because its all in plain sight. One needs only to observe some of the ff:

    1. If you ever get to watch manny close up in training, or lucky enough to watch him fight ringside, your first reaction is go WHOA LOOK AT THEM CALVES theyre the size of thighs & that accounts for much of his power. Lb 4 lb. I dont think there is or ever was a fighter that has such huge calves that look disproportionate but are natural alright;

    2. No fighter exists today, works as hard as pacman and its all documented. manny is like a man possessed when he works out and needs convincing to stop once he gets going;

    3. Pacquiao perfected his left straight punch in a manner that maximizes its impact and fast improving on his left. If you revisit t the fight wherein he delivers his 4 punch combination at DLH on the ropes, the super slomo shows how pacman TORQUES his punches (twisting his fist at the point of impact and hits you with the 2 large knucklebones as they do in karate same reason sparring partners say mannys punches hurt like no other). On the other hand GOLDENBOY at times is seen PAWING at pacquiao. That is a stark contrast between MP and all he fought, and THAT AINT NO PRODUCT OF NO PERFORMANC ENHANCING CRAP. Frankly, Ive never seen anybody from the current crop of fighters TORQUE their punches as much as pacquiao does. That takes years of practice;

    4. Manny is really a cool guy. COOL as a cucumber under fire. It is said that mannys heartbeat drops to 37 per minute when hes under attack Ijmtu. Elite fighters learned about it when they tried to attack MP thinking that they had him, while manny watches them in slow motion and out of nowhere BOOYAAHH!!! DOWN GOES MARQUEZ!!!, DOWN GOES MORALES!!!, DOWN GOES COTTO!!! and they go WHA T HAPPENED???

    5. Manny reinvented himself from the ground up with the aid of Freddie roach and team pacquiao after JMM2. You can hear MP say theres got to be a better way to fight. But dont be fooled that JMM won those fights. Where JMM looked sharp and the rounds looked close, MP delivered the heavier punches. PROOF POSITIVE: JMM WENT DOWN 5X out of 24 rds. marquez never knocked down MP once. JMMs biggest feat vs MP was that he wobbled him couple X, thats all. While MPs jabjab– left straight got him the wins and KOs in all but 5 bouts, it was sometimes bruising as in EM 1 and JMM fights. But the fact was MP & FR fought the wrong fight with marquez. You can almost hear nacho beristain giving his instructions to JMM as they practiced and perfected their defense against MPs jab2 left straight a million hundred times. Watch out for his jab, MPs signaling that hes coming Back up, back up as many forward steps as pacquiao takes & then counter the millisecond he lets up. Repeat. faster, FASTER. — REPEAT! — FASTER!! – FASTER!!!

    Beginning with david diaz, you saw the reinvented pacman fight patiently & stayed outside to pick his shots and display his full repertoire. it worked like magic, it wasnt bruising, it was an easy fight shsssh boxing is so easy after all he must have thought to himself. With a new resolve, the retirement plan is put on hold. This is fun.

    As for dela hoya, it was not mannys fault that he came in light, regardless he never put up a decent fight. From rd 1 DLH was hitting nothing but air. And when he got tagged, DLH was now in awe. Then MP started throwing his SIMULTANEOUS (not counterpunches) JABS & RIGHT HOOKS TO THE HEAD beating him to the punch. DLH was now afraid to jab which explained his low output, not because he was weight drained but rather IT HURT AND HE PAID EVERYTIME HE JABBED. Here we saw the lightning quick punches of manny as he slowly but methodically executes their game plan in dismantling a sport icon that crescendoed into a beatdown. Like everybody I felt for DLH and wanted it stopped sooner, but it was beautiful. His riding the PED allegations now is (sourgraping) an attempt to salvage the remains of his legacy. Same with Miguel Cotto;

    6. Mannys got buboy Fernandez with him. They help each so well d2 should get married. Did you see the expression in buboy when they lost to eric morales? The guy was almost sobbing;

    7. Pacquiao is a work in progress. forever hungry to learn and perfect his craft. you can expect something new every time he fights. In the last fight, his RETREATING LEFT UPPERCUT that knocked down MAC in the 4th was never seen before. Or how about that FLYING/LEAPING RIGHT HOOK TO THE HEAD in the 3rd rd. The guy was literally on air. Ive never seen those punches before. Think about it in light of speed generating its own power mannys quick and powerful punches is magnified by his power of lower limbs (spring in his feet, calves and thighs). It is then magnified still by his leaping technique (visibly or imperceptively) and FINALLY, HE TORQUES HIS FISTS AS IF TO DRILL A HOLE INTO THE BODY OR FACE OF THE COMPETITION.

    These folks are the true reasons behind the supernatural abilities of Manny Pacquao and NO OTHER BOXER ALIVE TODAY HAS DONE OR IS DOING WHAT MANNY DOES (not everything manny does anyways). There aint nothing dubious or illegal about it, ITS AU NATUREL, you just need to pay attention.

    Pacquiaos prosecution team should show film footages of these feats of MP and EXPLAIN TO JURORS ITS NUANCES if it ever gets to trial and before said jurors themselves entertain funny idears about pacquiaos superhuman feats. too many so called experts it appears are not even aware of this.

    Finally, Manny Pacquiao at this point is simply THE GREATEST FIGHTER OF ALL TIME. He may be replaced from his perch at some future time since nothing is carved in granite. Many will disagree including experts who have written volumes of laudatory biographies of the greats who may now be unwilling to invalidate their own work. And many more will argue, and lets face it, theres undeniable racial component to it. if youre of the race 97 out of 100 you probably would want to maintain the myth, after all its among the leading macho sport in the world. But thats another story for another time.

    But on second thought, Ill leave you with this. Its great this internet and the wonders of relational database as they do at BOXREC.COM where you can check a fighters history and those that they fought and on and on. They keep pretty good records of every fighter. Win/loss/draw, weights when they fought, last six fights, total fights of each when they fought, and so forth. And with the aid of YOUTUBE one can have a pretty good idear how one would stack up against another as they do today. Any decent fighter can look good against tomato cans. Great fighters can look great fighting good ones, but ITS ONCE IN A LIFETIME PHENOMENON TO SEE AN AWESOMELY GREAT FIGHTER DO BATTLE WITH ELITES IN THE SPORT AND LOOK SO GOOD HES SCARY that they accuse him of taking human growth hormones and performance enhancement drugs.

    Man continually evolves in his quest for perfection as he does in sports. Hes now smarter, quicker and stronger contrary to what some would have you believe that mans evolution in boxing stopped long ago with the greats. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Peace.

    Blood testing is that important and neither Mayweather or Pacquiao has ever been tested? Then I would say that Mayweather’s undefeated record means nothing because he has never passed a TRUE test and is probably on steroids and PEDs too. Frankly it wouldn’t surprise me if they were ALL on something. That goes for all major league sports too that don’t test randomly for blood.

    Look at those guys in football and basketball. They all look jacked with those big lean muscles! Unnatural looking to say the least.

    Excerpt from Wikipedia:

    “Floyd Sr. was convicted for drug trafficking as part of a ring smuggling cocaine in boxes of laundry detergent. He was convicted in 1993 and served a five-year term for his involvement.”

    Now that’s a credible resume for a PED-accuser according to Mayweather fans.

    Good article and I read clearly Manny didn’t HONOR his word with Oscar. So, the excuse of honor and pride against blood test is garbage.

    And I see Pac fans being what they are, pac-centric. What they didn’t mention is the blood test will be done for both fighters. No one will have any advantage over the blood test because no one can cheat. Maybe that is the point of Pacman.

    Fans of boxing now accepts that Manny doesn’t want to fight Floyd because the random blood tests prevents him from taking something.

    History will show Manny refused to fight Floyd because he’s a spoiled brat.

    Are both fighters clean and drug free? For me, both are clean and drug free… Gayweathers, especially the ugly, monkey-looking Gayweather sr and GBP are just jealous and envy of the Pacman that is why they accused him of using PEDs. Also, Gayweather jr. is just afraid to fight the pacman as he will get the beating of his life. We all know how coward he is. It’s known to the public and Americans know that.

    Who is the better trainer Roger Mayweather or Freddie Roach? Of course, no doubt, Freddie Roach is the best trainer in the world today.

    Who is the best fighter of the decade Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao? No doubt it is the Pacman… He is not afraid of anybody. He is willing to fight bigger fighters unlike Gayweather jr… Best ducker/dodger of all time…. OF ALL TIME.

All of us want the fight to happen those drug cases, drug test controversy, court cases, ego, principles etc. etc. are all B.S., let the two fighters swallowed a truck load of steroid for all we care, anyway we love to watch WWE wrestling, even if we know most of the wrestlers are into muscle building PED steroids. Let’s accept the fact that these are the golden days of a brown small asian guy. Talents are not only sprinkled in the land called America. Blessings are given to deserving creature in any part of the globe. Mayweather’s legacy had passed and is just trying to revive himself out of self pride and denial that he’s gone with a boring fighting bouts which millions of fans agree. An unblemished record doesn’t win an oscar but the most interesting showman in the ring does. Manny’s caliber like any other boxers who have heart to fight in the ring are more captivating to a live audience, than ducking and being selective of fights, and resorting to a very unsportly tactic. I am even sure manny will not even hesitate to fight floyd without gloves in a street fight–we Asians are willing to lose all the money but not our pride and honor, and better die but not running away like chicken. America is land of the braves…show you’ve got it Floyd. I am sure your fellow American’s will again fall in love with you.

    Kudos to Mr. Concoccti (hope I spelled it right) for a comprehensive and scientific proof of the Pacman’s prowess in boxing. With his physical attributes, he is customized by nature to be dominant in fisticuffs. He knows this even when he was still a kid…the only way he can get himself and family out of poverty. He had humble beginnings and he wanted to end it the same way.
    More power to Pacman and the analysis/comment by Mr. C. Oh I know, even if the Mayweathers read it, do you think they will believe it?

    Datu Pacquiao should continue the lawsuit against all accusers even if the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will happen.The case is now Mayweathers vs the Asian Race.This is great dishonor to the Asian race.The Mayweathers were allowed to be greater than the world’s boxing commissions ‘coz they’re Americans.An Asian will be jailed and banned from the sport if he says that to an American boxer.Why?US laws will always favor an American citizen over non-Americans.That’s reality in this racists world!An asian will always be treated as a 3rd class world citizen no matter what you try to achieve.Try to look all over the world why nations/peoples are rebelling against America.Look at Iraq,Afgans,Iran&other Muslim countries.They rebel ‘coz of US double standards.Mayweather is just showing he comes from a superior race:Hitler’s race!Time will come when all nations/people will rebel against America ‘coz democracy to them is justice for Americans only!And the world will cry “Jihad”!Death before dishonor!
