Shumenov Earns 58% of Votes from “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” Viewers

New York (August 8, 2011) – World champion Beibut Shumenov stood his ground in front of contender Danny “The Bronx Bomber” Santiago  and defended his WBA Light Heavyweight title by defeating the New York native by technical knockout in the ninth round of the main event of the July 29 broadcast of “Sólo Boxeo Tecate.”  Shumenov also made an impression on the judges at home, receiving 58% of all votes cast by boxing aficionados via text message and on, earning him the boxer with the most carácter title for the week and putting him in second place in the “Cinturón Tecate” competition for this quarter.

Cinturón Tecate” (Tecate Belt) is an award created to support the boxers who display the most carácter in the ring during the “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” broadcast each Friday night on TeleFutura.  Tecate recognizes that viewers at home are the best judges and allows them to vote for their favorite boxer of the night by sending a text message to 55333 or visiting, Uniclave: Solo Boxeo Tecate.  To thank participating fans, each text submitted gives them the opportunity to win boxing memorabilia, such as T-shirts, autographed pictures and even tickets to future “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” fights.

As contenders in the competition, the boxers who receive the highest percentage of votes from July through September will have the opportunity to win the “Cinturón Tecate” belt and appear on Univision’s premier sports show “República Deportiva.”  Current rankings are:

This week’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” will broadcast a Classic Studio Show featuring WBA Super Lightweight World Champion Marcos “El Chino” Maidana in his March 2010 fight against Victor Cayo and current WBA and WBO Interim Lightweight World Champion, Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero facing former Olympic medalist Joel “El Cepillo” Casamayor  in their July 2010 bout.
