Paulie Malignaggi hints that Manny Pacquiao might be on something

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

After Manny Pacquiao’s impressive KO victory of IBO light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton on May 2, 2009, Floyd Mayweather Sr. had accused Manny Pacquiao of taking steroids or enhancement drugs(Mayweather accuses Pacman of steroids).

Days Prior to Pacquiao’s fight with WBO welterweight Champion Miguel Cotto on Saturday Nov. 14, boxer Kermit Cintron also believed that the Pacman was on something(Cintron believes Pacman is on something).

After Manny Pacquiao’s dominating win over Miguel Cotto, a fight in which Pacquiao took all of Cotto’s best punches and shook them off even dropping Cotto twice in the fight, the  rumors that the fighter could be taking steroids or performance enhancing drugs were in the air again, this time by former Cotto foe, Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi.

In an interview with BoxingScene, Paulie Malignaggi was discussing his upcoming HBO rematch on December 12th, with Juan Diaz, when the topic changed to the Pacquiao vs. Cotto fight, Malignaggi had this to say:

What did you think of Pacquiao’s win over Cotto?

Paulie Malignaggi: “ I think there is something up with Manny Pacquiao. I am not going to get into it.  I think people will understand what I am saying.  Full blown welterweights don’t take those type of punches from Miguel Cotto the way he took them with total disregard for his power nor do they hurt him with every punch they hit him with.  These are full blown welterweights I am talking about.  This guy is coming up in weight and doing all these things.  There is something up with this guy but that’s as far as I am going to go into it.  Floyd Mayweather (Senior) has gotten into it a little bit.  There have been other fighters who have mentioned it.  I am not going to get into no controversy.  I am going to leave it at that.  There is something that seriously makes me feel weird about Manny Pacquiao.  I am going to leave it at that.”

It never fails. When a man comes up and becomes recognized there are always people trying to bring him down. This stuff usually backfires and helps to make a great boxer even greater when it’s found out that what he accomplished was by pure talent alone.

The Magic Man has it right again. Something is definately up with Manny. He is not in the same league as Cotto or Malignaggi. His speed is nowhere near Paulie. It will all come out in the end. Just like Margarito. This is what the Magic Man is talking about. There are some boxers with class and than there are just dirt bags.

Life is hard here in the Philippines.
If you’re not from a rich family, you’ll have to be strong, determined and relentless from childhood in order to get ahead and succeed. That’s how life trained Manny. With that kind of training (+ some good coaching/discipline from Roach), Manny is where he is now.

Many Filipinos show the same relentless, determined spirit on a daily basis. In our country..it’s always tough, so the tough just gets tougher, even without steroids.

Manny is definitely using roids that are undetectable. That’s why he trains in the Phillipines. He cycles off of the roids before he returns stateside. That’s why his tests are all clean. Say what you want about Mayweather, Sr., but he is been around boxing for 40 years. Cintron and Paulie are world class fighters. These people know a cheat when they see one. Stop thinking with your heart people. Think with your head. There is no legitimate way that a former 106 pounder can go all the way to welterweight and manhandle a welterweight like he is fighting a child. Be reasonable people. Think. Manny is a fraud and he will be exposed one day.

……Malignaggi probably meant Pacquiao got hemmoroid. You know boxers when they get beat so many times they tend to lose their sanity and sometimes dellusional, and Mayweather Sr. don’t even have a solid family foundation and even don’t get-along with his own son. He would try to show a little love to Jr., and occasional kiss butt to make up with lost quality time but Jr. is so damaged that can no longer be fixed. Anyway, it is what it is for now…go, Pacman go?!

    @ Pacroid,

I still think Pancho Villa is the greatest filipino boxer of all time considering the number of bouts (and wins) he had fought before he passed away at the age 23. Regarding your comparison of Donaire, the flyweight champion, being able to move up to Pacquiao’s current division, Doniare probably wont be able to, with or without steroids. Donaire naturally has a slender physique compared to Pacquiao—you’re in essence comparing somewhat like Richard Hamilton’s physique to Kobe Bryant’s. If Pacquiao had the luxury of migrating to the US at an earlier age, same age as when Donaire came here at the age of 9, he would have probably benefited from the country’s affluent diet and started at a higher division than what he started back in the Philippines. Pacquiao has a frame to fill up, not to mention, the naturally tree trunk calves that he already has, so it’s no surprise that he went up to this division. Of important note, the weight ascension didn’t occur overnight; it occurred over a span of 8 years. When he was fighting Morales at the super featherweight division, his weight at fight night ranged between 140-144 lbs already, even though their weigh in limit was 130 lbs. So it’s not like he gained 40 lbs in two years. He already was a few pounds short from welterweight range two years ago.

You mean Bruce Lee was on steroids ? Manny trains like Bruce Lee, with the mind over matter kind of thing.

The Pacman wears an amulet from a carabao, a Philippine water buffalo, a very strong animal. An old man, a faith healer gave it to him. He also eats the “balut” a duck egg with whole fetus boiled and eaten before the egg hatches. He also eats a lot of rice and raw fish marinated in hot vinegar.

Let your steroids crap go guys. Watch him beat Yuri Forman at 154 lbs hahaha.

“I have seen almost every pacman fight from 112 pounds to now. Here is why i think it is likely he is on perfomance enhancement drugs:

1- Physique: Just recently Juan Manuel Marquez moved up alot of weight to fight Mayweather, Marquez unlike Pacman retained some water weight. He was muscular but not ripped as pacman who now looks like bruce lee. Boxer Kermit Cintron has said there is no way without some perfomance enhancement drugs can you gain over 20 pounds of muscle in such a short time. Even Duran, De La Hoya, and Mayweather didnt look that ripped.

2- He seems to get stronger with weight. If you look at pacman he was actually knock down 5 times at 126 and lower. He was knocked out twice by torrecampo and Singurat 3k batter, and was taken down by a stiff jab by Hussein at 122. But now he is willing to allow Cotto give him free body shots on the ropes. Cotto a man who can knockout a natural welter with ONE body shot and couldnt do any damage to pac with dozens. He had to go 12 rounds with Marquez twice, Larios, and Morales (1st fight) but now he can physically dominate naturally bigger fighters as David Diaz, De la hoya, Hatton, and Cotto.

3-Stamnia – Most fighters show fatigue and less sting in their punches in the late rounds. But pacman never shows any signs of that. in fact, the volume of punches get hige often. People say steroids hamper stamina for boxing. WRONG. If steroids don’t help stamina why would pitchers like Clemens and Pettite take them if they decrease and not increase pitches thrown and innings pitched. In addition, these drugs help increase recovery time. Most importantly, pacman has been active for 15 years as a fighter and he never shows any effects of his tough fights. His energy seems to be get higher even after numerous slugfests. After Duran fought Hagler in a 15 round battle he had nothing left for Thomas Hearns and was knocked out in 2 rounds.

4-Head- His head seems to get bigger in proporation to his body. These are signs of HGH and other substances.

5- Designer Steroids can’t be Traced- The fact is synthethic steroids as THG, Madol and Genabol can’t be traced. There are also synthetic stimulants that can’t be traced. So of course he hasen’t tested positive.

6-Never heard of Steroids: Manny has stated he never heard of steroids. That is both humorous and preposterous at once. I guess when they do his blood and urine drug tests he thinks they are checking if he takes Flinstones Vitamins for kids or if he takes energy bars. Of course, HE KNOWS. They even have to sign papers with random drug tests. That sounds very defensive to say i never heard of steroids.

7-No Wear Down: All fighters are human after numerous fights they start to show age and wear down. Pacman has been active for 15 years as a fighter and he never shows any effects of his tough fights. His energy seems to be get higher even after numerous slugfests. After Duran fought Hagler in a 15 round battle he had nothing left for Thomas Hearns and was knocked out in 2 rounds. Even Hagler after the Duran fight looked shaky with Roldan early on. He even had his only official knockdown on the 1st round. Although some will argue it was half slip and half punch. Pacman has had tough wars with Morales, Marquez, Sanchez, Barreras etc., yet he seems to be impervious to slowing down as a fighter. Hagler a very conditioned fighter definitely started to slow down after his fights with Duran, Hearns, and John Beast Mugabi. Hagler was very slow in the Leonard fight due to the constant wars he had.

8- Top Rank doesent sue for Libel or Slander: Floyd Mayweather Jr and his father both have accused pacman of taking perfomance enhancing drugs. Bob Arum is an attorney why wouldnt he seek relief and damages for his top prize fighter’s reputation being questioned? Because if top rank sues and they testify and its proven later that manny took drugs than they can go to jail for perjury. Some will say he wants to fight mayweather so he wont sue but other fighters as Kermit Cintron have already accused him. NO LAWSUIT yet.

9-Philippine culture: This dosent sound politically correct but i know the culture, I been to the philippines. I can speak some tagalog and cebuano. The country has a long history of corruption, scandals, and political wrong doing. The manila airport is the only major airport that charges a terminal fee for using their facility. Hotels are known to trump up charges on visitors. Manny knows the culture wells. The motivation is to make millions of dollars by cheating. If Manny stays at Featherweight and lower he wont make $10-$20 Million fight. He at best will be like Chris John of Indonesia a featherweight making at most $1 million a fight.

10- Defies Reality: Unfortunately, we have seen boxers as Vargas, Jones, Toney, Mosley get caught. We were foolish to believe that Mcgwire and Sosa hit 70 home runs and 66 home runs due to hard work and talent. Than Barry Bonds breaks the record a few years later, a record that couldnt be touch for nearly 40 years. Now we have a boxer that is Henry Armstrong with shocking power. When De La Hoya fought Hopkins at 160 he was KOd with one body punch. THe Great Jose Napoles couldnt handle the naturally bigger Monzon, Arguello couldnt finish Pryor on his quest for his 4th weight division crown. Now we have a Flyweight knocking out welters SO EASy. He is like a God. But he didnt look like a god before at 122. He is not a god. He is JUST JUICED UP.” Great analysis!!! MANNY IS A JUICED-UP ROID MONKEY!!!

Obviously, coming into the fight, you already had a preconcieved notion that Pacquiao is gonna lose and then when he won, you’re mind turned upside down. What does a person do when he is proved wrong, similar in how Pacquiao proved you wrong? You turn to your assumption and you’re assumption can’t be more ignorant. Dude, read about Pacquiao. Better yet, read about how life is as a poor kid in the Philippines before you start making all this allegations. Also, read about nutrition and exercise. Then you’ll understand why Pacquiao has come to the top where he is now…

I said it before Pac is a great fighter but there is no doubt he is on possibly 3 drugs-stimulant, HGH, and painkiller to become a super legendary fighter. Fighter Harada was a great japanese fighter who had trouble in winning a featherweight title after being both Flyweight champ and Bantomweigt. Same thing for Thai fighter Galaxy. Galaxy was Muaythai expert and had great KO power but NEVER carried that to higher weights.

THe boxing world dosent do random tests as cycling and track and field. In addition, they DONT even check the blood, only urine. HGH-human growth hormone cant be found in urine. That dosent count designer drugs that cant be traced. The only way they are found is checking for abnormalities in WBC, RBC, Hemoglobin, abnormally high Testesterone levels. Boxing is out there to make millions they dont care if they cheat.

People keep saying Pac is a great christian man, if a man cheats on a loyal wife and mother to his kids, why wouldnt he cheat in a sport to make millions? His character is in question.

Malignaggi made a few good points. He also did a radio interview at fighthype, he said the man eats 8000 calroies a day in order to eliminate that you would need to overtrain and have nothing left for the fight, unless the drugs help him recover.

I am sure like the baseball scandal the whole world will know the truth sooner or later.

I think people who dont raise any questions are mindless nuthuggers who are blinded from reality.

I think boxing’s drug testing is so horrific that i am sure many other boxers are doing it not just pacroid. For example, i find Hopkins destruction of Pavlik very suspcious and all his success in his 40’s. BHOP’s great victories all come past the prime of most fighters career. Jones tested positive for a legal PED, but who knows what he took when beat Ruiz for the heavyweight crown?

All the blind pac nuthuggers will have egg in their face. It will be a big black eye in the sport of boxing

I supported Paulie vs his result with Juan “baby bull” Diaz as he had genuine reasons. However, Paulie is also a caught in his world of “loving me . . recognize me”. Given that he survive Cotto for 12 rounds was one of his defining moments (i.e. Cotto was an awesome boxer, elite welterweight, good ring smarts) which is why Paulie was predicting that Cotto was too much for Pac Man as he was INDIRECTLY trying to prop up himself as a good fighter.

However, the public sees the smoke screen Paulie. All your barking even in the disguise of smart talk insinuation does not hold water. You should follow Manny Pac – his success is really the result of hardwork, pushing himself to excellence (trains hours and hours per day), get a good coach/trainer to hone your strategy, improve your mental focus (not that you throw unsupported slander . . rather focus on your fights!), etc.

Steriods – DOES NOT MAKE YOU SUPERHUMAN, like the media would have you believe. Yes it does help, to an extent (ie. stronger, bulkier), but it does not make someone who has no talent become an amazing athlete. If an athlete DOES NOT have the talent or ability, steroids are NOT a wonder drug that is going to give them that talent or ability. Plus, steriods does not improve your mental/tactical state, does not improve your boxing technique (in and out movements, unique boxing angles), does not improve your feet/hands coordination (which Manny has been known for since his lower weight battles) . .

So Paulie, Cintron . . don’t try to prop up your image with classless accusations (unless there has been evidence to the contrary). It does not look good on you as reputable boxers . . but, rather whiners and jealous pricks.

You bring up some good points. I mean there are many great Korean,Japanese, THai, and other Pinoy fighters at the lower weight classes and none of these flyweights have made a mark in the Lightweight division LET ALONE the Welter.

These asian figthers count old school fighters as Fighting Harada and KHasdoi(Sp?) Galaxy. These were badass MF’s with martial arts skills and power. But they couldnt go too high in weights.

Nowadays, you have Chris John and Pongsaklek Wonjongkam are great current asian fighters and have not made a mark in more than 2 divisions let alone 7.

Even the tall celestino Caballero who fights at 122 is nearly 6 feet tall and he hasent moved up to lightweight let alone welter.

Dont you think all these fighters would move up in weight if it was so easy? They will make millions more.

One of the stupid comments people keep saying is manny natural weight is in 140’s. Difference betweem walking and fighting weight. COtto and CLottey are naturally 170 does than mean they can fight middleweights LET ALONE a nsturaal Light heavyweight? Of Course not.
