Erik Morales out of retirement to fight at welterweight

January 25, 2010 By NB News 17 Comments

Former three division world champion and Manny Pacquiao foe, Erik “El Terrible” Morales, has decided to step back into the boxing ring after a two and a half year layoff.

Erik Morales is one of Mexico’s legendary boxers, he is known for his epic trilogy with another Mexican great, Marco Antonio Barrera and for his big win in 2005 over Filipino superstar Manny”Pacman”Pacquiao.

Morales temporarily retired after losing in 2007 to David Diaz in an attempt to win 4 belts in 4 different weight classes but has officially decided that he wants to fight again and signed a six fight deal with his Mexican boxing promoter Nacho Huizar.

Nacho Huizar told ESPN.com that Morales is scheduled to face Jose Alfaro in a welterweight boxing match on March 27 in Monterrey, Mexico, which is two weeks after the Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight in Dallas.

The Morales vs. Alfaro fight will be broadcast in the United States through Integrated Sports pay-per-view.
