Is Bob Arum lying about Pacquiao-Mayweather? Team Mayweather releases statement

July 19, 2010 By NB News 12 Comments

Much has been said about the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. super-fight not getting made, and it has to do with Top Rank promotions head, Bob Arum, giving a deadline to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last Friday and claiming Floyd didn’t accept the fight.

Arum is Manny Pacquiao’s promoter and he claims that he agreed to terms for the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight and sent over a proposal through a third party, HBO’s Ross Greenburg, but Mayweather Promotions CEO, Leonard Ellerbe, released a statement on the situation claiming there was never a deal or negotiations.

“Here are the facts,” said Ellerbe, “Al Haymon, Richard Schaefer and myself speak to each other on a regular basis and the truth is no negotiations have ever taken place nor was there ever a deal agreed upon by Team Mayweather or Floyd Mayweather to fight Manny Pacquiao on November 13.”

Ellerbe went on to say someone is lying to the public about the situation, “Either Ross Greenburg or Bob Arum is not telling the truth, but history tells us who is lying.”

So from Ellerbe’s comment about history telling us who is lying, he could be referring to Bob Arum who is well known for his famous quote: “Yesterday I was Lying, today I am telling the truth.”

The Mayweather and Pacquiao soap opera continues and fans are going crazy with all the dramatics we just want the fight.

If Arum tries to give the boxing fans a Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito fight instead of a Floyd Mayweather fight  it will be a shame to boxing and will only benefit his pockets.
