The Ultimate Fighting Championship heads to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on March 19, 2011 for UFC 128: Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Jon “Bones” Jones. The main event is a UFC light heavyweight title showdown, Shogun Rua is the champion and Jones is the challenger.
Jon Jones is a highly promising UFC fighter who is young unorthodox and very talented, he is filling in for an injured Rashad Evans, who was originally scheduled to fight Shogun but suffered an injury in training camp. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was asked to fill in for Evans, but he had to decline stating that he couldn’t get ready for a title fight at 205-pounds with only 4 weeks notice because he weighed 250 pounds. Jon Jones was given the opportunity to fight for the title against Shogun after his victory over Ryan Bader at UFC 126.
UFC 128 will also feature other exciting bouts including the Octagon debut of former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber and a heavyweight showdown that could end in a knockout with Brendan Schaub vs. Mirko “Crocop” Filipović.
Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White announced that UFC 128 will air four live preliminary fights free for the fans, two fights on Spike TV, and two fights will stream live on the UFC’s official Facebook page.
