Former world champion Paul “The Punisher” Williams (39-2, 27 KOs) takes on the Cuban amateur standout Erislandy Lara (15-0-1, 10 KOs) and on the undercard is a title fight between the WBA junior featherweight champion Akifumi Shimoda (23-2-1, 10 KOs) of Japan versus the undefeated challenger out of California, Rico Ramos (19-0, 10 KOs) on Saturday night, live on HBO “Boxing After Dark” from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
After suffering a devastating knockout loss to middleweight champion Sergio Martinez in 2010, Williams is looking to bounce back in a big way by fighting on a credible and skilled opponent in Cuba’s Erislandy Lara. Williams said he is only going to fight 2 or 3 more fights before he retires, if he gets by Lara on Saturday night he would like big money bouts against the top fighters such as Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto and a third fight with Sergio Martinez.
