The biggest fight for Mayweather is a rematch with the man who KO’d Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has made it known that he will return to the boxing ring on May 4th aka Cinco De Mayo weekend, and he needs an opponent that will help him generate huge dollars during the Mexican holiday, a very popular time for boxing pay-per-views.

What better opponent than a Mexican legend like Juan Manuel Marquez, the man who knocked out Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao was the biggest threat to Mayweather, until Marquez stopped him.

Think about it for a minute, Marquez is a legend, he is coming off one of the greatest victories in boxing history with his one punch knockout of the great Manny Pacquiao, and the Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez 4 fight sold 1.15 million PPV buys.

Marquez can draw big numbers especially with the fame he received after the shocking one punch knockout heard around the world.

When Marquez first fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. he came up short. He had to move up from lightweight to a catch-weight of 144-pounds, and he was bloated and soft, he looked slow and sluggish in the fight from not bulking up correctly, and to top it off Floyd Mayweather failed to make the contractual catchweight of 144 pounds. These are just some reasons that help make a rematch more saleable to the casual fan.

Marquez was outboxed, but he was never beaten up badly by Mayweather. This new version of Marquez deserves a chance, people laughed at the thought of Pacquiao and Marquez fighting for a 4th time, and look at the outcome of that fight — nobody expected Marquez to knockout Pacquiao.

The most talked about fight for years was a super fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, but Marquez just squashed those plans by defeating Pacquiao by knockout, that’s enough for him to earn a shot at a rematch with Mayweather. Marquez said he wasn’t 100 percent against Floyd, and with his new conditioning trainer Angel Heredia he was able to help the 39-year-old boxer add the proper size and power to help him at welterweight.

There are talks of Floyd versus Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, or Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, but neither of those guys have earned a shot against Floyd, Marquez earned his shot by beating Manny Pacquiao.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Marquez II is the best option for Cinco De Mayo weekend it will do huge numbers on pay-per-view.
