Former light welterweight world champion Amir “King” Khan returns to New York, when he takes on former WBO champion Chris Algieri at the Barclays Center.
Khan is one of the fastest boxers in the sport today, his hand speed and angles give him the ability to throw a combination of punches and get out and repeat. If he gets passed Algieri on Friday night, it sets himself up for a possible showdown with unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather in September.
Algieri is best known for pulling off the upset at the Barclays Center over heavy favorite and fearsome puncher Ruslan Provodnikov, that win led him to land a huge fight against Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao, which he lost by decision.
Algieri is now back with a new trainer John David Jackson and ready to prove that he will come out the cage against British star Amir Khan and pull of another upset at the Barclays.
Unbeaten Dominican fighter Javier Fortuna and Bryan Vasquez of Costa Rica will face off for the vacant WBA super featherweight world championship belt.
