Gatti exhumed; Canadian authorities to do autopsy

The Associated Press

MONTREAL — Boxer Arturo Gatti’s body has been exhumed, and the Quebec coroner’s office will perform a new autopsy at his family’s request.

Gilles Ethier, deputy chief coroner of the western part of the Province of Quebec, says Gatti’s body is presently at the Montreal morgue.

The autopsy is scheduled to be performed Saturday morning. Ethier says the family has retained an American pathologist who will be present and assist with the autopsy.

Brazilian police say Gatti hanged himself with a handbag strap from a staircase column more than seven feet off the ground. Until Thursday, they insisted it was a homicide and the boxer’s wife was the primary suspect.
