Nonito Donaire’s replacement opponent announced

February 10, 2010 By NB News Leave a Comment

The show will go on. Top Rank’s Latin Fury 13-Pinoy Power III pay-per-view card will continue after an unexpected withdrawal by Nonito Donaire’s opponent Gerson Guerrero due to a detached retina that was detected during a pre-fight eye exam.

Super flyweight champion Nonito Donaire will now be facing Mexican boxer Manuel ‘Chango’ Vargas. Vargas last fought Filipino WBO minimum weight champion Donnie Nietes and lost by split decision.

The event will have top Filipino and Latino fighters squaring off in the ring. The match ups are: Gerry Penalosa of the Philippines vs. Eric Morel of Puerto rico, WBO bantamweight champ Fernando Montiel of Mexico vs. Ciso Morales of the Philippines, Bernabe Concepcion of the Philippines vs. Mario Santiago of Puerto Rico.

Gerry Penalosa and Bernabe Concepcion are both trained by Freddie Roach, who also trains Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.

Top Rank’s Latin Fury 13/Pinoy Power 3 is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 13 live at the Las Vegas Hilton on PPV.
