Manny Pacquiao sends condolences to Valero’s family

April 20, 2010 By NB News 1 Comment

Upon hearing the tragic news of Edwin Valero murdering his wife Jennifer Carolina Viera de Valero and later committing suicide in his prison cell, consensus pound-for-pound king and devout Catholic, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, offered the Valero family words of support and prayer.

“I was surprised when I heard of what happened,” Pacquiao told ABS CBN News. “I condole with his family, let us pray for his soul.”

Edwin Valero and Manny Pacquiao seemed destined to square off in the ring.  Valero was chasing a fight with Pacquiao for several years, even willing to move up to 147-pounds to challenge him. He flew to the Philippines in 2008 to attend the December birthday party of Manny Pacquiao.

Valero’s promoter, Bob Arum, was building Valero up as a possible Pacquiao opponent, a fight that would have been crowd pleasing and explosive due to their respective styles.
