Unbeaten prospect Lennox Allen’s journey lands in Brooklyn

July 27, 2010 By NB News Leave a Comment

NEW YORK (July 27, 2010) – The long, often arduous journey for unbeaten super middleweight Lennox “2 Sharpe” Allen, a native of Guyana, took him around the world before finally settling in Brooklyn.

The 25-year-old southpaw turned pro six years ago in Georgetown, Guyana. Less than a year later, attempting to kick-start his boxing career, he moved to Perth, Western Australia. “I decided to take a risk and move to Australia,” Lennox explained. “I thought that it would be a good step for my career, but it wasn’t working out, and after 18 months there I returned home to Guyana.”

Allen (12-0, 7 KOs) fought three more times at home before taking advantage of an opportunity to come to the United States in 2008 as a sparring partner for Bernard Hopkins who was preparing to fight Joe Calzaghe. The 6’ 1” Allen captured the vacant Guyanese super middleweight title a year ago and, soon after, he moved to Brooklyn and signed a promotional contact with Boxing 360.

“I hooked-up with Boxing 360 and things started rolling,” Lennox said. “Fighting in America is much different than in Australia or Guyana. Everything is better here – sparring, fighting, you name it. I’m a better man and fighter because of all I’ve been through. It was difficult for a while but now I’m on track.  I did that all on my own but now I have Boxing 360 and trainer Colin Morgan in my corner. They’re keeping me busy.”

Boxing 360 is equally excited about its undefeated prospect. “Lennox trains all of the time, whether or not he has a fight scheduled, and he wants to be busy,” Boxing 360 Director of Boxing Bob Duffy remarked. “We’re going to keep him busy and his next fight is August 6.  Lennox is a good kid who works very hard. Most importantly, he really wants to fight, unlike a lot of fighters today.

“Colin Morgan is bringing him along great and he’s really high on Lennox. He’s happy with Boxing 360 and we’re happy to have him in our growing stable. When a fighter is happy with his promoter and trainer, only good things can come from it.”

Allen is a fan-friendly fighter to keep an eye on. “Most people expect me to be a boxer,” Allen concluded, “but I like being aggressive. The way to win fans over is to fight. They don’t want to see guys running around, they want to see a fight, and that’s what I give them every time I’m in the ring.”
