Pacquiao calls out Mayweather: “Fight like warriors and brave men”

August 7, 2010 By NB News 15 Comments

Stories around the internet say that legendary boxing promoter, Don King, was able to sign Floyd “Money” Mayweather away from Golden Boy Promotions and Al Haymon. Mayweather will be in attendance during the HBO boxing match up tonight between Devon Alexander and Andreas Kotelnik in St. Louis, the event is being promoted by Don King productions.

Mayweather’s move would really shake up the boxing world and gives boxing fans another glimmer of hope that a super-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is possible.

Bob Arum, who promotes Manny Pacquiao, was happy to here the possibility of a Don King and Floyd Mayweather team. Arum and King have a long rivalry together but through all the feuding they were still able to do business together. Don King has stated that if Floyd Mayweather Jr. was in his stable and he was promoting him the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight would have been a done deal already.

Manny Pacquiao, who is supposed to fight Antonio Margarito in November, heard the news of a possible Don King and Floyd Mayweather deal and issued the following statement through his blog at PhilBoxing.com in tagalog:

“I hope Mayweather is serious enough in doing business with Don King and is not doing this only to save face. I hope Don King does the same in return, that he can make miracles happen. I say this to both these men: Let’s Get It On. Fight like warriors and brave men,” commented Pacquiao.

“I am the champion, I have the belts and I should not be the one challenging you. I should not even be the one trying to make this fight happen. But Pacquiao vs. Mayweather is what everyone wants… that’s why I am calling out your names [King and Mayweather]. My promoter Bob Arum will be waiting for your call and will be very happy to hear what you have to say. The sooner, the better…”

“This is the only way for Mayweather to save face. Make the fight happen in November and stop using Mr. Don King for publicity stunts. He claims he is the best. He says he is No. 1. There is only one way to prove his greatness and that is to face me. I should be ready by November,” Pacquiao said.

Manny Pacquiao has officially called Floyd Mayweather out and is willing to forgo a fight with Margarito in order to make the Floyd Mayweather fight instead. Will Floyd accept the challenge this time or is this all a marketing gimmick leaving the fans disappointed once again?
