JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ AT WELTERWEIGHT IS A DISASTER

Juan Manuel Marquez must prove himself that he can actually win a round fighting at welterweight. Marquez has never won a single round at welterweight, he lost every round that he ever fought at that weight when he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. There are fighters that Marquez should fight and beat to legitimize himself at welterweight. WBC champ Andre Berto, Timothy Bradley, and even Ricky Hatton have all proven they are legitimate fighters at 140 and above; Marquez has not. In fact, Marquez has proven that he is totally worthless above 140.

Let the sweepstakes begin for a Manny Pacquiao fight among the contestants. Let’s put Berto, Bradley, Devon Alexander, and Marquez in the mix. Bradley and Alexander have already signed to fight each other, Marquez and Berto should be next. The winners from those two fights should fight each other. The winner of the elimination contest should be awarded the prize of fighting Pacquiao.

Marquez just stopped Pacquiao in the ninth round. That seems to be what he is comparing his win over Michael Katsidis. Let’s get something straight, Pacquiao is 5X the fighter that Katsidis is. Katsidis is a one dimensional fighter. He comes in and bangs, he is limited in defense as well as in offense. Now Marquez thinks he deserves a third fight with Pacquiao with a win over some guy that most citizens has never heard of, Katsidis.

Katsidis is a warrior, but his heart outsizes his skills. Berto, Alexander, and Bradley would totally destroy Katsidis. Marquez wants to cut in the Welterweight line to fight Pacquiao by using Katsidis as a launching pad. Sorry, Marquez, that pad is not strong enough to vault you to the front door of Pacquiao. Winning a match at Lightweight does not prove you can win at Welterweight. You’ll need to win AT WELTERWEIGHT to be considered a legitimate foe for Pacquiao.

Can someone please wake up Marquez. He seems to think that being on his back four times equals a win against Pacquiao. He also think that being shut out 12 rounds to zero in a welterweight fight against Floyd Mayweather equals another fight with Pacquiao. Remember what happened when Marquez’s delusional idea of equating a win at Lightweight over Juan Diaz launched a fight at Welterweight against Mayweather? He got totally annihilated, he was slow, fat, and ineffective.

Marquez is once again trying the same plan that failed in a very big way. He beat a one dimensional Juan Diaz at Lightweight and then jump to Welterweight. He wants to do the same thing once more. He beat a one dimensional Katsidis at Lightweight, and wants to repeat jump to Welterweight once more and fight Pacquiao.

People are not going to pay to watch a sequel of a bust. Are you going to watch a sequel of a high budget movie bust? Marquez fighting at welterweight is a bust. It’s a disaster of Titanic proportion. Marquez trying to fight at welterweight is like Eddie Murphy trying his luck at a singing career. It’s Michael Jordan trying his hands at a baseball career. It’s Magic Johnson having his own television talk show. Marquez has already bombed at welterweight. Stay at your own element, Marquez, Welterweight is not it. Let the big boys handle the Welterweight division. Did anyone give Magic Johnson a second shot at a TV talk show, or Jordan succeeding in baseball?

Manny is right when he said that no one wants to see a third fight with Marquez. Sequels of a bust don’t sell well. Being a star at a high school play does not mean you can become a star in Hollywood.

HEY, MARQUEZ, PROVE YOURSELF AT WELTERWEIGHT BEFORE EXPECTING A PRIZE AT THAT WEIGHT.
