Floyd Mayweather Jr never had any intentions of facing Manny Pacquiao

It will always be the never ending debate between those who support Floyd Mayweather Jr. and those who support Manny Pacquiao. Despite the revealing interview between George Peterson – the trainer of Paul Williams managed by Al Haymon who is also the manager of Floyd Mayweather Jr and  boxinginsider writer Scoop Malinowski. The interview was done on December 2nd 2009 in New York, the interview revealed an interesting answer by George Peterson, and if his answer is spot on, we will never see this historical megafight in our lifetime. NEVER. http://www.boxinginsider.com/headlines/dont-waste-your-hope-pacquiao-floyd-isnt-gonna-happen/

But there are other signs that leads us to believe Floyd Mayweather Jr has no intentions of facing the reigning pound for pound King.  After Manny Pacquiao’s fight with Miguel Cotto, Top Rank head honcho Bob Arum announces that Golden Boy Promotions who is representing Floyd Mayweather Jr to go ahead and  get the ball rolling for the mega fight between the two best fighters in the world.  It seemed in the beginning it was smooth sailing and making this fight would be a cakewalk. But instead it has been nothing but rough waters. Golden Boy Promotions and the Mayweather camp insisted that the fight with Manny Pacquiao should be on March 13 th 2010. It seemed very early fight since Manny just fought Miguel Cotto 5 months earlier. If the fight took place,  Manny would have immediately started his training mid January. At that time, Manny still had a broken eardrum from his fight with Miguel Cotto. There was concern that Manny’s broken ear drum has not sufficiently healed but Manny Pacquiao was willing to take the fight despite the injury to his ear. The Superstar believes the Mayweather camp was secretly hoping Manny would not take the fight since he has a broken ear drum and  could be used as an out. One of their trump cards. But if we look at this closer, the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather would have been better suited for the weekend of Cinco de Mayo (5th of May), the Mexican holiday which is usually the premier date for high profile fights. There is no higher profile fight than Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. If Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather signed the fight, The Superstar guarantees the fight would have changed to the weekend of Cinco de Mayo.

So that trump card did not work, next is the one that put the knife in to the heart of this fight. The infamous demand by Floyd Mayweather Jr for Manny Pacquiao to submit to Olympic Style Drug Testing. The drug testing included random blood testing for each fighter which would have been administered by USADA (UNITED STATES ANTI DOPING AGENCY). At the time, the negotiation of the fight came into a standstill stemming from the random drug testing demand. The negotiation was then given to a mediator, a Judge who has handled negotiations between other fighters before. Even with the mediator, the fight failed to happen. The root of the failed fight was the disagreement of the timetable of the random blood testing. It was originally one test was going to be performed just before the formal announcement of the fight. Then another blood test 30 days, changed to 24, and then changed to 14 days before the fight. And the final blood test to be administered right after the fight. Also unlimited urine testing at will. Still, according to the Mayweather camp, the timetable was unsatisfactory. However, according to Floyd Mayweather Jr, he revealed that he was willing to go 14 days before the fight, and still the fight did not happen.

Early June, a bomb was dropped, Floyd Mayweather announced he will be out of boxing for a couple years. Despite Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank were still in the heart of the negotiations. Floyd Mayweather and his camp were vehemently denying any negotiation to fight Manny Pacquiao was in the works. Even accusing HBO and Top Rank of lying. Then HBO head of sports Ross Greenburg testified that he was a mediator and the go between the two camps, Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank. Even earlier before, Oscar De La Hoya told in a Spanish show negotiations for the mega fight was close to happening. Later Oscar recanted that statement and said he was misquoted. In the negotiation, it was revealed Manny Pacquiao was willing to do ALL of demands Floyd had on his original negotiations. Even up to near the fight. And still Floyd decided to leave boxing. Despite Floyd saying right after his fight with Shane Mosley, “If Manny Pacquiao wants to fight, I mean its not hard to find me. I mean we tried…we was going to make this fight happen..a couple of months back. We weren’t able to make the fight happen. So we move on. ” “Like I said before. Manny Pacquiao take the blood and urine test we can make the fight happen for all the fans.” Then on early June 2010, Floyd takes another long vacation. Despite Manny agreeing to ALL of his demands. Later it was also revealed in a interview with Manny Pacquiao he agreed to all the demands. And he was asked why and according to Manny he wanted to see his intentions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmqeBye3KhA

Manny Pacquiao is an avid poker player, back in the early days he would play poker in the card clubs in L.A. And this time he used he poker skills and called Floyd Mayweather Jr’s bluff. And from what we see, Floyd folded his hand. Floyd Mayweather Jr never had any intentions facing Manny Pacquiao. Even if Manny agreed to all of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s demand, Floyd would have changed the agreement and probably insisted more testing even way after the fight, maybe throughout the whole year until the one year anniversary of their fight. It would not have mattered if Manny agreed until a day before the fight because Floyd would have likely changed the demand. If we look at this rationally, Manny agreed to all of Floyd’s demands and according to Floyd they can make the fight if they meet his demands. Manny Pacquiao did meet his demands and Floyd decides to leave boxing for a couple of years. Maybe next negotiation, Floyd Mayweather Jr may enhance his demands and insist Manny Pacquiao take more random blood tests and unlimited enemas.
