It’s true, Manny Pacquiao is being paired up with fighters who favor his style. It is the duty of a promoter and trainer to pit their fighter with another fighter who has a style match-up that will lead to an exciting fight and sell more pay per views.
Boxing is a business and I wouldn’t call Team Pacquiao cherry pickers, they are not picking easy fights, but picking fighters who will give an action fight for the fans. Bob Arum and Freddie Roach are handpicking the best fighters who will trade blows with Manny and excite the fans who pay their hard earned money to watch an action fight.
Floyd Mayweather himself handpicks fighters that he believes will give him the least trouble and make him the most money. Floyd favors fighters who are ripe for the picking, or guys he knows will not come at him for 12 rounds non-stop with aggression, regardless, if they get hit or not.
Style-wise Manny Pacquiao and Sergio Martinez are nightmare match-ups for Mayweather, his own father said it himself that he prays his son doesn’t have to fight southpaw boxer.
Pacquiao is the most dynamic southpaw in the game, and Sergio Martinez is a slick moving southpaw with a significant size and power advantage over Floyd Mayweather. You won’t see Prettyboy Floyd in the ring with either fighter anytime soon.
If you watch a Mayweather fight the pre-fight hype is more exciting than the actual fight because he boxes cautious and scared. Floyd doesn’t take any chances not even if he has a guy hurt like when he dropped a featherweight fighter Juan Manuel Marquez, instead of finishing the smaller fighter off he was content throwing just throw one punch at a time.
Floyd picks guys he knows he can beat and will give him the least amount of trouble, Manny fights guys who will give crowd pleasing fights and actually trade blows like Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Ricky Hatton and now Shane Mosley.
Arum and Roach know Manny is on top of the boxing world and he has the attention of the casual fans, so, they are showcasing his talents with tough aggressive fighters so those fans will leave satisfied and comeback to watch The Pacman fight again.
Floyd Mayweather doesn’t care if the fans are excited or not because he cherry picks fighters who will allow him to remain undefeated because he knows the fans only pay to see him lose and once he loses he won’t draw 1 million pay per view buys anymore, and lose all his appeal.
As you can see Floyd is the real cherry picker here and not Manny Pacquiao.
