Oscar De La Hoya in rehab for substance abuse problems

May 21, 2011 By NB News Leave a Comment

According to a report from TMZ, the boxing legend and boss of Golden Boy promotions checked himself into a California rehab facility for treatment of a substance abuse problem.

Oscar De La Hoya last fought in 2009 when he lost to current pound-for-pound king Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao by quitting on his stool before the start of the 9th round.

Oscar has said it was a difficult decision to make but he felt that retiring from the sport of boxing after his loss to Manny Pacquiao was the right choice to make.

For many boxers it becomes difficult to cope with retirement especially after a devastating loss so they turn to drug and alcohol usage, Ricky Hatton, another fighter that last fought Manny Pacquiao also turned to drugs because of his difficulty of being able to cope with his devastating KO loss to the Filipino congressman.
