MAYWEATHER-ORTIZ IS A BIG INSULT TO THE SPORT AND BOXING FANS

Floyd Mayweather Jr. fighting Victor Ortiz on September 17 means only one thing: Pretty Boy would rather lose to any fighter on the planet but Manny Pacquiao. And that’s how gigantic his ego is.

Don’t be fooled. The fight is just another excuse and ploy by Floyd to alter destiny and avoid being included among Manny Pacquiao’s casualties for the pound-for-pound king to rise even higher from where he is now at the expense of him, the perfectly wily boxer who has the penchant to wear different masks before the public.

The fight is a great disservice to the sport and a big insult to boxing aficionados worldwide. We have been clamoring that Mayweather faces Pacquiao and here he is easily making a fight but with a different southpaw champion who has the capability to serve him his first loss though at least not at hands of a man he hates and envies so much.

As I wrote in my recent article, the Pacquiao-Mayweather will never ever happen, at least at a time when the matchup matters, when we most want it and in a way that it ought to happen. And should Mayweather lose to Ortiz in September and got his idolatrous unblemished record blotted out of his resume, and if ever he fights Pacquiao later, then that would be an entirely different story and not so exciting event.

Yes the “Pacquiao-Mayweather” may happen but not the Pacquiao-Mayweather the boxing world has been clamoring just as the “Pacquiao-Marquez” is about to take place in November.

Greed and ego have been depriving the boxing world of great fights being staged at the right time.

And unless certain people who may be in positions to move and create an international boxing body that would be powerful enough to regulate the sport, impose fines, sanction and even suspend any boxer and promoter who refuse to engage in a logical and compelling matchup as so ordered by such body and as warranted by a popular outcry from among the boxing fans and sports aficionados worldwide, boxing will forever remain in comatose within the confines of the ICU department.

Clinically dead.
