Watch Joseph Agbeko vs. Abner Mares Live on Showtime

August 13, 2011 By NB News

The Showtime Bantamweight (118 lbs) Tournament concludes on August 13 with finalist IBF Bantamweight champion Joseph Agbeko (28-2, 22 KOs) of Accra, Ghana taking on the other finalist WBC Silver bantamweight champion Abner Mares (21-0-1, 13 KOs) of Hawaiian Gardens, California. The Agbeko vs. Mares fight will be held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Abner Mares and Joseph Agbeko were originally scheduled to fight on April 23, 2011 but Agbeko suffered an injury a few days before the fight and doctors later diagnosed it as sudden onset of sciatica. Both Agbeko and Mares share wins over common opponents Vic Darchinyan and Yonnhy Perez.

The winner of the Bantamweight tournament could set up a potential Bantamweight showdown with WBC, WBO Bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire.
