NEW YORK, NY (September 15, 2011) – World renown boxing promoter Gary Shaw will be the special guest speaker Tuesday evening (Sept. 20) for RING 8’s monthly meeting (7 PM/ET start) at the historic Waterfront Crabhouse in Long Island City.

In 1971, he first got into boxing as an Inspector for the New Jersey Athletic Commission, serving 28 years including a promotion to Chief Inspector. Gary joined Main Events in 1999 as its Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”).

As President and CEO of Gary Shaw Productions, Shaw has promoted and co-promoted some of the most significant shows in boxing history, including Lennox Lewis vs. Mike Tyson, Felix Trinidad vs. Fernando Vergas, Lewis vs. Vitali Klitschko,Winky Wright vs. Trinidad, Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo, and Shane Mosely vs. Wright. Gary has also promoted many of the biggest names in boxing such as Manny Pacquiao, Tyson, Lewis, Mosley, Vargas, Arturo Gatti, Wright and Corrales.

Today, Gary Shaw Promotions handles many great boxers, among the more notables, former world champions, light heavyweight Chad Dawson and bantamweight Vic Darchinyan, IBF middleweight titlist Danny Geale, and WBA No. 1 cruiserweight contender Lateef Kayode.

“We’re grateful to Gary for taking time out from his very busy schedule to be our guest speaker,” RING 8 president Bob Duffy said. “Few boxing promoters have achieved as much as Gary and his company remains one of the strongest promotional companies in boxing. Our members will learn a lot and hear some great boxing stories.”

Formed in 1954 by an ex-prizefighter, Jack Grebelsky, RING 8 became the eighth subsidiary of what was then known as the National Veteran Boxers Association — hence, RING “8” –and today the organization’s motto still remains: Boxers Helping Boxers.

RING 8 is fully committed to supporting the less fortunate people in the boxing community that may require assistance in terms of paying rent, medical expenses, or whatever justifiable need.

Go on line to www.Ring8ny.com for more information about RING 8, the largest group of its kind in the United States with more than 350 members. Annual membership dues is only $25.00 and each member is entitled to a buffet dinner at RING 8 monthly meetings, the third Tuesday of every month, excluding July and August.
