Fight Night at The Coronet Theatre, ‘No Quarter Asked, No Quarter Given’

October 26, 2011 By NB News Leave a Comment

Following the incredible response to his latest event, held at the Coronet Theatre in London’s Elephant and Castle, promoter Mickey Helliet has inked a deal which will mean the next instalment of his ‘Hellraiser Fight Night’ series will be screened live across Europe. European TV giants Eurosport are the latest to join Helliet’s growing army of supporters and will show his next fight night ‘No Quarter Asked, No Quarter Given’ at The Coronet Theatre on Friday, November 25th.

The event sees the start of a new partnership between Helliet and his long time friend and fellow London promoter Robert Waterman. It could be that the pair’s qualities complement each other. Waterman has a wealth of experience (he enjoyed successful spells as promoter of world champions Ricky Hatton and David Haye) and contacts with major broadcasters. Helliet currently manages more boxers than anyone else in the UK and has established a burgeoning reputation for promoting exciting small hall fights.

The bill will be topped by an intriguing contest for the Southern Area Lightweight Title between two extremely popular fighters in Hove’s exciting Ben Murphy and Carshalton’s unbeaten Tony Owen. As well as an interesting contrast in styles between Owen’s composed, measured boxing and Murphy’s explosive aggression, the bout is certain to provide the high levels of excitement and electric atmosphere upon which Helliet’s company has built its name.

Hellraiser Promotions are established pioneers of small hall boxing, stripping the sport back to basics and delivering pound-for-pound top quality bills where 50-50 matches are fought out in front of standing room only audiences. Helliet’s reputation for high- energy, hunger-driven matchmaking has earned him respect from his peers and grabbed the attention of fans and boxing bigwigs alike. He is relishing the challenge of taking his events to a wider audience and is keen to continue with the same formula that has brought his events cult status among the capital’s fight fans. “I always like to put shows on that I feel would appeal to me as a fan and this event definitely ticks that box. Closely matched competitive fights have always worked well for me so I definitely won’t be changing that. The basics will stay the same. I always pay attention to what motivates the fighters and use that to make great fights. Now thanks to the faith that Eurosport have put in me, millions of people all over Europe are going to be able to enjoy watching my events. Believe me they are in for a treat. I’m excited by the prospect of having a bigger budget to work with, that is going to enable me to put on bigger events and higher profile fights.

Helliet sees beauty in building two fighters in their respective localities, developing their talent through focus and discipline, building local support and encouraging a healthy rivalry between two worthy, well prepared competitors. ‘Fight Night at The Coronet’ delivered its promise. The Southern Area Welterweight Championship fight between Gavin Tait and Chas Symonds is sure to feature in the experts’ fight-of-the-year polls after their classic gave the punters an adrenaline-fuelled, action-packed evening of first- class boxing. “In the main event neither of the fighters (Gavin Tait and Chas Symonds) took a backward step. They fought beyond exhaustion, until they could barely hold their hands up any longer, yet as soon as the bell went to finish the bout they were like old friends, hugging and joking with each other. The mutual respect between the competitors was obvious, while the fans of both fighters followed their lead, each fighter’s fans offering generous applause to their opponent. That is what my events are about, top quality boxing in an electric atmosphere, driven by a full house of fervent and knowledgeable fight enthusiasts. When you mix those ingredients you can’t fail to produce first class entertainment, I think of my events as unique in that way.”
