Bob Arum tells why he isn’t keen on making Mayweather vs. Pacquiao

Yes, you read that title right, Bob Arum, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao’s promoter isn’t too keen on putting his only money maker in the boxing ring with the great Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. not because he feels Pacquiao would lose but according to him because Floyd’s trash talk would taint Manny’s chance at a future presidential run in the Philippines.

In a recent article by respected boxing and MMA columnist Gareth A Davies, Bob Arum, said that he wants to live long enough to see Manny Pacquiao become president of the Philippines and that being the pound for pound best boxer in the world isn’t his goal, it’s for Manny to transcend boxing.

What really stands out to me is how clear it is that Bob Arum is the one who is scared to put Manny Pacquiao in the ring with Floyd Mayweather. Bob is now giving the excuse that Floyd’s trash talk would be so insulting that it could have a negative impact on Manny’s chances of being president of his country and that’s why he is hesitant on making Pacquiao vs. Mayweather.

Here is the quote:

“I’m trying to weigh everything he (Manny Pacquiao) does in his boxing career on how it will relate to the ultimate goal of being president. One of the reasons I never really was so keen on a Mayweather fight which I now truly believe is an easy fight for Pacquiao is because how Manny is going to be tainted by some of the vile things that Mayweather comes out with. Even though he’ll be the good guy, God knows what Mayweather is capable of saying. It’s one thing to talk about how much better a fighter he is and Manny can’t do this or that, but Mayweather, who has no sensibility in this, is capable of insulting the country. The ignorance is so appalling.” Source

Why can’t people see it, Bob Arum doesn’t want Manny in there with Floyd because he knows how great Floyd Mayweather is and that his fighter stands no chance!

Arum is the only one holding this fight up. If he was so confident in Floyd being an easy fight for Manny, he would have been happy that Floyd announced he is fighting again on May 5, 2012 and say if Manny Pacquiao beats Juan Manuel Marquez we will immediately negotiate with Floyd Mayweather and his people. Instead, Bob got offended that Floyd would make such a public statement and a fight date and venue without his knowledge, even though, Arum put the same type of deadline an demand on Floyd when he gave Floyd until midnight to accept a fight with Pacquiao at Dallas Cowboys stadium or else there was no fight,  he even had a countdown clock on his website and held a press-conference where he blasted Floyd for being scared of Manny.
