ESPN’s Friday Night Fights: Gonzalez & Dallas Jr. in Main Event February 17 Woods & Estrada in Co-Feature

February 15, 2012 By NB News Leave a Comment

ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra will feature Junior Welterweights Miguel “Silky Smooth” Gonzalez (20-2, 15 KOs) and “The Silent Assassin” Mike Dallas Jr. (17-2-1, 7 KOs) in the 10-round main event February 17 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2 HD, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN3 from Arlington, Texas. The card is presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions.

ESPN2, ESPN Deportes & ESPN3:
On ESPN2 and ESPN3, Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas will be ringside at College Park Center, at the University of Texas Arlington describing the action, while studio host Bernardo Osuna will present all the latest boxing news and highlights. On ESPN Deportes’ Viernes de Combates (Friday Night Fights) Pablo Viruega and Delvin Rodriguez will call the fights with Leopoldo Gonzalez and Lindsay Casinelli in the studio. On ESPN Deportes, Casinelli and Gonzalez will discuss the riot that broke out following the Johnriel Casimero vs. Luis Lazare IBF flyweight title bout last week in Argentina.

Main Event:
Cleveland’s Gonzalez, is coming off a second-round knockout win over Humberto Toledo, while California’s Dallas will look to rebound after a 10-round decision loss to Mauricio Herrera. Previously, Gonzalez won an eight-round unanimous decision against Tyrone Harris and has had impressive amateur wins over former welterweight titlist Victor Ortiz and pro prospects Diego Magdaleno, Terrence Crawford and Gary Russell Jr.

“My style is very defensive,” Gonzalez said. “It’s a Sweet Pea Whitaker-type style, but I have a bigger punch. I can move and be slick, but I can also bring the heat like a Tyson, and dig to both sides of the body with short uppercuts. I adapt to my opponent’s style and take their confidence away from them. This is what I live for. It’s going to be awesome.”

Atlas:
“The main event could be an interesting fight. It could be competitive. You have two guys (Dallas and Gonzalez), that were good amateurs and two guys that are basically at the same point in their careers. I’m hearing reports that Gonzalez is not in top shape and he might be coming off an injury. I have a little bit of my doubts as to if Gonzalez is going to be in tip top, ready shape to give his best effort.”

Co-Feature:

Friday’s co-feature will pit 2008 U.S. Olympian and undefeated Super Middleweight Shawn “Manos de Oro” Estrada (13-0, 12 KOs) against Terrance “Sugga Sweet” Woods (9-3, 6 KOs). Los Angeles’ Estrada is coming off a third-round TKO over Alvaro Enriquez, while Texas’ Woods will look to rebound after a six-round unanimous decision loss to Alexander Brand.
