Watch Mayweather vs. Cotto and Canelo vs. Mosley Live on HBO Pay-Per-View

May 5, 2012 By NB News

For Floyd Mayweather Jr. fighting on Cinco de Mayo and the same day as the prestigious Kentucky Derby has almost become a tradition. Mayweather broke the North American Pay-Per-View record on Cinco de Mayo in 2007 when he fought Mexican American superstar Oscar De La Hoya in a fight in which he won the WBC Junior Welterweight championship and selling 2.7 million PPV buys in the process — a feat that still hasn’t been matched to this day.

Miguel Cotto who is the WBA Junior Middleweight champion is also the underdog heading into Saturday’s fight, he has two losses, one against Antonio Margarito which he avenged in December of 2011 and another loss to Manny Pacquiao. For Cotto being the first fighter to defeat Mayweather would be bigger than winning any title.

The co-feature of the evening Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Sugar Shane Mosley could be a Pay-Per-View event on its own. Canelo at just 21-years-old is already a WBC Junior Middleweight champion, undefeated, and a superstar in his native Mexico. Mosley on the other hand is considered a past prime legend on his way out. For Canelo beating Mosley on the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo would help legitimize his young career, and for Mosley beating a young undefeated fighter in Canelo will help breath life back into his fading boxing career.
