HBO World Championship Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions present Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia a live light-welterweight title unification bout on July 14 from the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Amir Khan was originally supposed to fight Lamont Peterson on May 19 in a rematch for Lamont’s WBA 140-pound belt, a belt that Peterson won from Khan back in December of 2011, but a week before the fight it was revealed that Peterson failed pre-fight drug tests and tested positive for synthetic testosterone and the fight was called off and Khan was recently reinstated as WBA super champion after Lamont was stripped of the title. Khan (26-2, 18 KOs) wanting to stay busy decided to fight undefeated WBC light-welterweight champion Danny Garcia (23-0, 14 KOs) on July 14th.
The press conference leading up to the Khan vs. Garcia fight has been heated, Angel Garcia, Danny’s father and trainer, insulted Amir’s ethnicity and religion during the press conference and promised his son would defeat Khan because he never saw a “Pakistani fighter who can fight,” Khan kept his composure and made a promise of his own, telling the elder Garcia that he would knock his son out.
Watch the WBA/WBC light-welterweight championship fight Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia live on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 11:00 PM ET/PT on HBO World Championship Boxing for North American viewers and on Sunday July 15, 2012 at 2:00 AM on SKY for UK viewers.
