ESPN Deportes introduces El Bar, this Friday, September 14 at 9 p.m. ET. Oscar De La Hoya and Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. sit down to talk for the first time since fighting in 1998

ESPN Deportes continues to produce original content with the premiere of the network’s new show, El Bar, Friday, September 14 at 9 p.m. ET. El Bar joins boxing luminaries Oscar De La Hoya and Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. for an in-depth interview during the first installment of the series, on the eve of two major boxing cards in Las Vegas – one featuring Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and the other showcasing De La Hoya’s protégé Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Never the same, El Bar will frequently move to new locations, different crowds and fresh scenes with sports idols and personalities of the entertainment industry. The show will deliver casual and culturally relevant dialogue, inviting Hispanic sports fans to take a seat and feel as if they are at the table.

Presented exclusively by Coors Light, El Bar redefines how, where and what a ‘talk-show’ is supposed to be: intimate, authentic and spontaneous. As host, Andres Agulla – ESPN Spanish-language play-by-play commentator and co-host of Fuera de Juego – will use his experiences to bring never-before-seen exchanges to the audience.

Friday night’s conversation with “The Golden Boy” and Chavez Sr. covers a wide range of topics including their humble beginnings and the journey to the top, and how their love of the sport led to their iconic careers. In the first episode of El Bar, the two men also detail the differences between starting and continuing a boxing career in Mexico and the United states while revealing insights about their lifestyle, depression and redemption. Finally, Friday’s El Bar discusses Chavez’ son’s fight this weekend against Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez, and Golden Boy promoted Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s fight against Josesito Lopez.

De La Hoya is an American and Mexican American boxing icon. Born and raised in East L.A., “The Golden Boy” won a gold medal (Barcelona, 1992) shortly after graduating from high school. From there he turned pro and defeated 17 world champions and won 10 world titles in six different weight classes. He generated more money than any boxer in the history of the sport and has since transitioned into a promoter with his company: Golden Boy Productions. De La Hoya finished his career 39-6 and officially retired in 2009.

Julio Cesar Chavez is considered the greatest boxer ever to come out of Mexico. A six-time world champion in three weight divisions, he is an undisputed legend. He is known for his incredible punching power, strong chin and for relentlessly chasing opponents in a stunning 115 professional fights. He retired in 2005 with a 107-6-2 record. He’s the father of current WBC Middleweight Champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and prospect Omar Chavez.
