The Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez championship fight proved that boxing is the theater of the unexpected, as Sergio Martinez challenged Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the WBC middleweight title and outboxed Chavez Jr. using his footwork and fast hand speed to get in and get out of range for eleven rounds, going into the twelfth and final round, it seemed that Martinez was on his way to a flawless and dominant victory over his much younger foe, but Martinez was caught by a late round barrage of punches that hurt him and sent him to the canvas, Martinez managed to survive the late round scare but the fans were on their feet thinking that Chavez Jr. would pull off a comeback KO win.
