Danny Garcia KO’s Mexican Legend Erik Morales In Rematch

October 20, 2012 By NB News Leave a Comment

Undefeated Puerto Rican American light welterweight boxing champion Danny “Swift” Garcia knocked out one of Mexico’s greatest boxers Erik “El Terrible” Morales at 1:23 of the fourth round to retain his WBC/WBA light welterweight titles on Saturday night at the brand new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Danny Garcia and Erik Morales first fought last March in Houston with Garcia capturing the vacant WBC light welterweight title after winning a unanimous decision, tonight’s fight was a rematch that almost never happened when Erik Morales failed two random drug tests this month for the banned substance clenbuterol. Morales blamed contaminated meat he ate for his failed test, and past a third drug test this week allowing the fight to go on.

In the rematch, Garcia and Morales started out slow, basically measuring and trying to counter each other for the first two rounds. The fight started heating up in the third round when Garcia started putting on more pressure and landing more body punches on Morales slowing him down.

Going into the fourth round, Morales showed his age and looked tired Garcia capitalized on an exchange and got the better of Morales by landing a flush powerful left hook on the jaw that sent Morales falling down through the ropes, as Morales tried to get up his corner man entered the ring telling the referee to stop the fight. Garcia improves his record to 25-0 and Morales 52-9.
