The original scheduled main event was supposed to pit TUF 16 coaches Shane Carwin against opposing coach Roy Nelson but Carwin suffered a knee injury and was replaced by another heavyweight Matt Mitrione.
The finals match-up for TUF 16 is Colton Smith (Team Nelson) vs. Mike Ricci (Team Carwin) the winner will become The Ultimate Fighter season 16 welterweight winner and win a UFC contract.
