Mayweather vs. Canelo or Pacquiao vs. Rios which fight will deliver fireworks?

July 16, 2013 By Luigi Prado Leave a Comment

On September 14 Floyd Mayweather Jr. will fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at a catchweight of 152-pounds for the junior middleweight world championship later on in November, Manny Pacquiao will face off against the tough Brandon Rios in a welterweight non-title fight in Macau, China. Which one of these boxing matches will deliver fireworks and have the viewer satisfied with the outcome?

I feel that Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Canelo Alvarez will be the bigger pay-per-view event but the fight that will be a true crowd pleaser will be the Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios event in Macau, China.

Mayweather is more of a safety first boxer, he likes to touch you and move and not take many chances to entertain or to prove his dominance. Pacquiao is an offensive minded fighter, he wants to really knock you out and doesn’t care if he gets knock out in the process as witnessed in his last fight with Juan Manuel Marquez.

If you watched Mayweather’s fight against Carlos Baldomir it was a boring event, Floyd did what he had to do and punch and move to a points decision and I feel the Canelo fight will play out the same way. Pacquiao’s last fight was a fight of the year! It was an all out war with his long time rival Juan Manuel Marquez, it was filled with action packed drama that makes the sport so great. Manny was knocked down early, came back up knock down Marquez, began to bloody his face on way to a stoppage win, and then the unexpected happened the great Filipino warrior Manny Pacquiao was knocked out cold by his bitter rival. Pacquiao vs. Marquez will go down in history as one of the greatest boxing rivalries, they always came to fight and they satisfied the fans who paid to watch an actual fight not an amateur point fight.

The only chance Canelo has to beat Floyd is to knock him out and that will be a difficult task because Canelo is not a pressure fighter who throws a lot of combos, Floyd will have his way with Canelo. The Pacquiao vs. Rios fight is a 50-50 fight. Nobody knows how Manny’s chin will hold up after that knockout loss and Rios is hungry after suffering his first professional defeat. When you have two guys coming off losses and hungry to redeem themselves you have the makings of an all out war, and Pacquiao vs. Rios unlike Mayweather vs. Canelo will end in either a knockout or a beat down, nothing in between.
