Sergey Kovalev KO’s Nathan Cleverly in 4

August 17, 2013 By NB News

The fight results are in, and Russian light heavyweight boxing sensation Sergey Kovalev remains undefeated winning the WBO title from Nathan Cleverly on Saturday night by knocking out the former champion in 4 rounds.

Kovalev was built up as the light heavyweight version of Manny Pacquiao because of his explosive speed, relentless combo punching and killer instinct. He showed that killer instinct and punching power after he hurt and dropped Cleverly  several times in the third round, once he hurt him he continued on to try to finish the fight before the bell rang.

In the fourth round Kovalev pressed on to finish off his wounded opponent and after he dropped Cleverly again from a flurry, the referee stopped the fight not wanting the former champion to take anymore damage.

Sergey Kovalev now puts himself in line for a possible title unification showdown with the winner of Bernard Hopkins vs. Karo Murat IBF championship bout.
