CANELO VOWS TO CHANGE THE COURSE OF BOXING HISTORY BY BEATING MAYWEATHER LIVE ON BOXNATION

September 6, 2013 By NB News

LONDON (6 Sept. 2013) – Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is adamant his super-fight against pound-for-pound king Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather will alter the course of boxing history, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).

Mayweather has long been considered the best fighter of his generation, with 44 wins out of 44 fights, testimony to his superiority over his peers. The American superstar seems destined to enter the boxing Hall of Fame as one of the greatest of all time, with his current unblemished record intact.

However, rising light-middleweight world champion, Alvarez, who himself is undefeated, squares off against the majestic Mayweather on September 14, under the bright lights of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with a promise to rewrite the chapters of boxing folklore.

“This fight can change history, when I win this fight it will be a memorable win. This is what is motivating me,” said Alvarez.

“I’m not worried about the occasion. In my career I’ve always been able to focus very well despite being in some very tough fights. I’m a fighter who has always been very strong mentally and very cold in my thoughts.

“As a fighter you only want to face the best and at this moment in time Floyd Mayweather is considered the best. And the only way you become the best is by beating the best, so I’m looking forward to it.”

As the reigning WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine light-middleweight world champion, the cinnamon haired Mexican has not come up the easy way after turning professional at the tender age of just 15.

Despite enjoying cult-hero status in his native country, headlining the biggest fight card in nearly a decade offers Alvarez the chance to become a worldwide boxing icon and cement his legacy by silencing the often outspoken Mayweather.

“I think the way Mayweather is talking he is underestimating me but deep down I think he is very worried. He’s always been a talker, that’s the kind of person he is. But I don’t care what he’s saying or what he’s thinking, all I care about is what I’m saying and what I’m thinking and that I’m in control – that’s what matters to me,” Alvarez said.

“It’s good Mayweather is saying that this won’t be the toughest fight of his career, the day he gets up in the ring with me he’ll see whether it’s a tough fight or not,” he declared.

Alvarez is well aware of the significance of his impending battle and is prepared for an experienced Mayweather who is still at the very top of his game.

“I have a lot to lose, this is a fight that is super important to me,” he said.

“Floyd’s not a dirty fighter but he’s a very experienced fighter and sometimes he uses his elbows and forearms but it’s a tactic to take you of your game plan and then counter you. I’m going in there to follow my game plan and make my fight and not fight his fight.

“I still think Floyd is at his peak and he hasn’t lost anything despite getting older – he’s still Mayweather,” added Alvarez.

Mayweather vs Alvarez is live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546) on Saturday 14th September. To subscribe visit www.boxnation.com.
