British boxer ‘The Special One’ Kell Brook will finally have a shot at a world championship belt when he challenges current IBF champion ‘Showtime’ Shawn Porter at the Stub Hub center in Carson, CA on August 17. Sky Sports 1 will broadcast the event in the UK.
Porter won the IBF welterweight title against Devon Alexander last year and dominated the former champion from star to finish. He is coming off an impressive fourth round knockout of tough veteran Paulie Malignaggi.
This will be a battle of two unbeaten fighters, in their primes. Brook believes he has the style to exploit Porter’s flaws. Porter is beaming with confidence due to the fact that he has been in with better opposition than Brook.
Bolton boxer Amir Khan has his eye on the winner of tonight’s bout. Brook has been calling out Khan for years, only to be given the cold shoulder, Khan expressed that the only way a fight with Brook is worthy is if he wins the IBF belt, otherwise it’s a meaningless fight for him. Brook vs. Khan would still be one of the hottest fights on UK soil regardless of tonight’s outcome.
