WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto will defend his belt against Australian contender Daniel Geale at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on HBO World Championship Boxing, Saturday, June 6.
Cotto won the WBC middleweight belt against the lineal champion Sergio Martinez in dominant fashion stopping him in 10. With head trainer Freddie Roach, Cotto feels he has a better approach to the sport. He recently left Top Rank promotions his long time promoter, and signed a lucrative multiple fight deal with rapper Jay Z’s Roc Nation boxing wing.
Geale who lost to the Gennady Golovkin believes he has what it takes to out box Cotto who is the much smaller fighter. Geale’s team believes Cotto wanted the catchweight of 157 pounds to train and drain the Australian boxer so he would not be able to perform at 100 percent.
