HBO Boxing After Dark goes to the DC Armory in Washington for a double header featuring Luis Ortiz vs Tony Thompson in a heavyweight main event, and in the co-main event Sadam Ali vs. Jessie Vargas for the WBO vacant welterweight championship of the world. Watch it live on HBO (10:00 PM ET/PT) on Saturday, March 5th.
The heavyweight division is in a new stage with heavyweight kingpin Wladimir Klitschko losing his title against Tyson Fury, Charles Martin capturing a belt and Deontay Wilder holding a title, the division is wide open for interesting match ups. Unbeaten Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz who is 24 and 0 with 21 by way of KO, has the skill and power to shake up the heavyweight champions. He is facing the veteran American Tony Thompson who has 40 wins, 6 losses, and 27 by way of KO.
The opening bout for HBO Boxing After Dark is a WBO welterweight title bout, featuring unbeaten Sadam Ali (22-0-13 KOS) a slick boxer from New York, against Jessie Vargas (26-1-9 KOS), who is coming off his very first loss against Timothy Bradley. Vargas last fought Bradley for the WBO welterweight title but lost, he made a late 12th round comeback having Bradley nearly out on his feat he assumed the ref stopped the fight and celebrated. The ref eventually said he didn’t stop it and Bradley won the fight. For Sadam Ali his goal is to win his first championship and hopefully unify the belts at welterweight against the other champs in the division.
