Two-weight divison world champ Natasha Jonas will put her IBF welterweight belt on the line against former women’s super featherweight unified champion Mikaela Mayer at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England on January 19th, the event pits two of the best female boxers from the UK and USA against each other in a can’t miss boxing event.
Jonas (14-2-1, 9 KOs) is somewhat a late bloomer in boxing, and at 38 years of age she became a world champion for the first time in 2022 in the 154 pound division after campaigning most of her career at super featherweight and lightweight.
She would eventually drop down to welterweight and capture another world title making her a champion in two weight classes. Jonas did this after she was written off because she was nearing 40 years old, she proved the doubters wrong and she plans on beating Mayer in top fashion to continue her boxing journey and add to her resume to put her among the very best female boxers in history.
Mayer (19-1, 5 KOs) is a former unified super featherweight world champion, since losing her titles to Alycia Baumgardner in 2022, she moved up to the lightweight division to chase a big money fight against the undisputed champion Katie Taylor. She now moves another division to 147-pounds for another title opportunity and a chance to be a two-division champ.
