WBO light welterweight world champion Teofimo Lopez will defend his titles against Canadian challenger Steve Claggett on June 29 in Miami, Florida but first the combatants must make weight on Friday for their championship bout on ESPN.
In the co-main event, former world champion Robeisy Ramirez of Cuba will take on Brandon Leon Benitez of Mexico in a 10-round featherweight bout.
In the opening bout of the televised broadcast, Muhammad Ali’s grandson, Nico Ali Walsh will have a chance to avenge his only loss in a rematch against Sona Akale, the bout is set for the middleweight division.
Teofimo Lopez (20-1, 13 KOs) is one of the best pound for pound boxers in the world. His combination of speed and power is what makes him dangerous. He has another headliner on ESPN to shine before fourth of July and he aims to set off fireworks in the ring with a dazzling performance on Saturday night.
Steve Claggett (38-7-2, 26 KOs) is a journeyman boxer from Canada, who has yet to win a world title, but with an impressive comeback story he aims to pull off the upset and become a world champion. This will be a very tough bout for Claggett but he believes he has grown and evolved as a fighter, learning from all of his loses.
The event is promoted by Top Rank and will be broadcast on ESPN in North America.
