The Documentary Film “Tyson” by James Toback will be released on April 24, 2009 in Theaters, also on board as an Executive Producer is NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony.
Mike Tyson is retired from boxing and still remains an enigmatic figure in the sport. He was so famous in his prime that it seemed everyone recognized him all over the globe, he was that big.
His life was filled with ups and downs and he speaks on it in the documentary which has Tyson opening up about his life and struggles.
Many topic were discussed included his upbringing, how he got into boxing, his failed public marriage to actress Robin Givens, and his close bond with father figure and trainer Cus D’Amato who passed away just before Tyson won the heavyweight title.
Portion of a review from Peter Sciretta who saw the film at Sundance:
“To his credit, Mike comes off as incredibly honest and forthcoming. And we get stories about how the boxer contracted gonorrhea from a prostitute before a championship fight and how he likes to woo strong women, CEO types, and dominate them in the bed room. We also get commentary on some of his fights, giving us a look into the skill and psychology.”
After reading that it’s safe to say this film must be filled with tons of Tyson quotable’s that will end up on YouTube.
