HBO PPV’s Mark Taffet, confirmed Tuesday that the March 13, PPV between Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and African welterweight Joshua Clottey, generated 700,000 pay-per-view buys, earning $35.3 million in TV revenue.
The Filipino boxer proved that he is a major superstar in the United States by hitting 700,000 buys against a non-American fighter with little fan base and a less than stellar under-card.
Pacquiao’s fight with Clottey also drew 50,944 fans to the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, setting a record for third highest live attendance for any boxing event in the U.S.A.
What makes the feat even more impressive is that Manny Pacquiao is not an American fighter or a Heavyweight boxer, yet he drew some amazing numbers and captured the American fight fans interest, due to his crowd-pleasing fight style and humble, family friendly, personality.
On May 1st, the next big HBO PPV is Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Sugar Shane Mosley “Who R U Picking?”, and is expected to exceed 1-million Pay-Per-View buys.
