Top Rank Promoter, Bob Arum, has a stern message for his superstar boxer Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, his message is simple — train hard because Margarito is coming to fight.
“He better step up his training,” Arum said after watching Pacquiao’s sparring session on Saturday.“Because this guy (Margarito) poses very, very unique dangers for Manny,” Arum told ABS-CBN News.
Arum, who landed on Philippine soil on Oct. 15 to visit Manny Pacquiao at his training camp in Baguio, saw Antonio Margarito train before he left and believes this is the best Antonio Margarito he has ever seen in camp.
“He is in the best shape I have ever seen. He would be a big danger for any welterweight in the world,” Arum said of Margarito.
Arum believes Margarito has something to prove and the suspension from boxing is extra motivation for Antonio Margarito to show people that he still is a top fighter by beating Manny Pacquiao on November 13 at Dallas Cowboys stadium in Texas.
“If you are Margarito and this had happened to you. You’ve been suspended in boxing for a relatively long time and now you get the opportunity to be in this world stage, you’re gonna kill yourself to prepare,” added Arum.
Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach isn’t to pleased with his pupil’s ok showing in sparring and he still believes there is a long way to go before Manny gets to top form. Arum feels Manny knows when to step up his training and is just pacing himself. There is a possibility if Manny Pacquiao trains too hard early in training he could burn himself out and over-train making him fatigued come fight night. A boxer like Pacquiao must pace himself in camp so he has more energy in the fight and doesn’t leave his fight in the gym.
