On September 17, Victor Ortiz of Garden City, Kansas will make history by knocking out the great Floyd Mayweather Jr. handing him his first defeat.
It’s just my prediction, but, I have a gut feeling that Victor Ortiz will be able to hurt Mayweather and impose his size on him. It’s not because I am Mexican-American, even though I’m naturally going to support my people, its because of recent observations I’ve seen of both fighters.
But it goes beyond that. I know that Floyd Mayweather is the greatest all around boxer in the sport, but if he is taking Ortiz lightly he will be in for the biggest upset in boxing. Floyd hasn’t fought in a long time and he is coming in against a dangerous southpaw fighter who is 10 years younger than him.
What I seen from Victor Ortiz on HBO 24/7 is the hunger and determination of a man possessed and focused on a goal, not resting until he achieves it.
Ortiz isn’t allowing Floyd to get into his head, and it shows that he is mentally strong, other fighters crumble from Mayweather’s mind games and pre-fight tactics and they lose the fight. Ortiz just smiles and talks his trash back because he isn’t intimidated by Floyd and knows he can handle his punch.
I truly believe of all of the welterweights, Victor Ortiz is the most dangerous of the bunch, even more dangerous than Manny Pacquiao. I think Floyd would get in Manny’s head and even bully him in the fight because Manny is so small he would have to leap 3 feet forward just to land a punch on Floyd as evidenced in the Pacquiao-Mosley fight. Ortiz has the skill, size and reach to hurt Floyd, things that Pacquiao doesn’t have, and Ortiz doesn’t show any fear, while Manny Pacquiao has already shown fear when he ducked Mayweather by avoiding the full random drug tests.
When a fighter has that look in his eye, he will go in there and give his all, and Ortiz has that look, he has the fire burning inside that will force him to go through pain just to pull off the win because compared to his rough childhood this is a cakewalk.
My prediction for Mayweather vs. Ortiz: I see the torch being passed to Victor Ortiz on Saturday night after he knocks out Mayweather in round 10, he will be the man at welterweight and the real pound for pound king. And remember where you heard this first, Manny Pacquiao and his team will duck Victor Ortiz just like they ducked Joan Guzman, Humberto Soto, Zahir Raheem, Nate Campbell, Timothy Bradley, Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams, Andre Berto, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
