Pacquiao, Mayweather, Hopkins All Marred With Controversy

First of all I would like to say that Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao put on a very close chess match on Saturday night, I had the fight a draw that’s how tough it was to score, and if you read my previous article you could tell Marquez was using the same type of strategy that I wrote about and went to the body a lot but he didn’t get the KO and was a little bit more cautious compared to their other fights. Read: “Marquez Must Attack The Body Early To Stop Pacquiao”

The past three HBO boxing Pay-Per-View’s have all been marred with controversy.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz – The fight ended in what a lot of people said was a sucker punch and others say was a justified sucker punch when Ortiz purposely head butted Mayweather and after apologizing multiple times and hugging, Floyd punches him twice when the ref wasn’t paying attention and knocks him out.

Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson – The fight ending was very typical of Bernard Hopkins, the fight was over in the second round after Chad Dawson toss Hopkins off of his back and onto the ring canvas and B-hop complains of a shoulder injury that people were not buying. People were not buying it because B-hop had tried this multiple times in past fights to either get a disqualification victor or get points deducted over difficult opponents. After Dawson was declared the champion by TKO, Bernard got his belt back after the fight was reviewed by the WBC organization. Some people believe that Hopkins hurt his shoulder prior to the fight because in round one his corner was already putting ice on his shoulder.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez III – These two men battled twice before in two competitive close fights that had people having different views of who won [the first fight was a draw and Pacquiao one a decision in the second]. This fight was another tough fight to call, I felt Manny was more patient and he was using the right strategy early but he didn’t fire off that lead left hand the way he did to Oscar De La Hoya — when Manny did throw the lead left  and moved to the side, he was able to stop Marquez from countering. I already knew that Manny was too wild with his punches and would play into Marquez’s counter punching. I had this fight a draw, but I could see it going either way because some may favor Pacquiao’s aggression others Marquez’s counter punching. From the feel of the crowd and the other people at the bar I watched the fight with they felt Marquez was robbed. The Pacquiao vs. Marquez trilogy will go down with the Ken Norton vs. Muhammad Ali trilogy, Marquez is to Pacquiao what Ken Norton was to Muhammad Ali, a nuisance in the ring and horrible style match-up.

The next big boxing Pay-per-view is the rematch of a controversial fight, Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito II. After watching the face-off for this fight and Cotto accusing Margarito of using plaster gloves in his win over him, it has a fight of the year written all over it. Let’s just hope this fight doesn’t end in controversy and ends the bad streak of controversial HBO Pay-per-views.
