Pacquiao vs. Mayweather: Give The Paying Fans The Fight They Want To See

Boxing is in a state of emergency. There’s alot of people taking and not enough giving. The UFC markets itself as if they were unheard of and yet they are slowly choking the boxing world out. I am a die hard fan of the sweet science and the skill boxing truly possesses, the technique, the brawling.

We hear numerous stories about why the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Maywether super-fight will not happen. Is it Bob Arum? Is it that Floyd is not willing to risk his flawless record? Could it be Manny not wanting the extended drug tests Floyd is demanding? What ever the reason is I can’t help but feel cheated.

I, like countless others have fell into the cherry picking pay-per-view fights and regretted it come cable bill time. Floyd Mayweather has done well for himself financially, he is brilliant at making money. I ask the question then, is he a true warrior or a cash cow cashing out on easy fights with little to no risk? Why is this fight so complicated? Why is he demanding extra testing from Manny Pacquiao not within the regular guidelines? If Floyd is so sure, and he must be to make these type of performance enhancing drug accusations and testing demands, then, why fight Manny at all? I don’t recall Mike Tyson ever involved in this type of thing. Think Muhammad Ali and Smokin’ Joe Frazier had these issues? We the fans that make the sport what it is and line the pockets of those calling the shots, we as paying customers have every right to demand what we want to see. It should be simple and yet it it has become a circus that is embarrassing the sport we love.

Manny Pacquiao has never failed a drug test. Mayweather has never failed a drug test. What is the problem? Ok, argue about the 50-50 purse split. Argue about who walks to the ring last but please stop with all the smoke and mirrors.

My statement to Floyd Mayweather is please let the State Athletic Commission handle the testing. When it was Victor Ortiz, Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Zab Judah there were no problems. Why now? To ask Manny of such preposterous demands your admitting you think he is a challenge but you are not sure why, only to think it must be because he is cheating. Pacquiao has never tested dirty in his boxing career.

Boxing is in a state of emergency, and this is not helping. Let’s give the fans the fight they want to so bad, give a little something back to the people who support it and pay for it. True warriors put it all on the line, win, lose or draw. Can we imagine what the state of boxing would be if Muhammad Ali refused to fight Joe Frazier over reasons that held no water? Manny Pacquiao is clean. Floyd Mayweather is the only one who needs to take the test. Step up and fight the best. Manny is waiting and he is the test.
