Mayweather will fight a better version of Cotto than Pacquiao did

I can’t wait to see Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Miguel Cotto on May 5th! Floyd Mayweather keeps impressing me every time he picks an opponent. You gotta love Money May because he is willing to fight the best guys out there at their best weights, none of this catch weight crap that Manny Pacquiao does to weaken his opponents, Floyd only wants to fight a guy when he is healthy and on even terms. If you can’t respect him for that than you are just a hater.

We all know Miguel Cotto had two questionable losses in his career to Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao, those are his only two losses and just recently Cotto redeemed himself and defeated Antonio Margarito by TKO. It was at a healthy weight of 154-pounds, a weight that Cotto didn’t have to starve himself to make. When Miguel fought Manny Pacquiao aka the catch weight king, he was forced to drain himself 2 pounds below the welterweight limit of 147-pounds and he suffered in that fight, he was winning the early rounds but gassed out and had no power to his punches because of the strenuous weight and re-hydration clause he had to agree to in order to fight Pacquiao.

Since the loss to Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto has been on a hot winning streak and won a WBA 154-pound belt and is the man in that division. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao were both throwing offers at Cotto to negotiate a fight, and the main deal breaker for Cotto in terms of a Pacquiao rematch was the weight, Manny didn’t want to fight Miguel above 147 he wanted Cotto to come down to 147 or to 148 for a Jr-middleweight title fight. Miguel Cotto basically told Manny to kick the curb at such an offensive offer and wasn’t going to sacrifice his body anymore just so Manny can have all the advantages in the fight and destroy a weakened version of himself again.

Money Mayweather on the other side, told Cotto that he could make the most money he ever made in his life, and gave Cotto a deal that would guarantee him $30 million dollars and a split of the Pay-Per-View revenue (Bob Arum usually offers Cotto under $5 million guarantee with a small portion of PPV revenue), and he would go up in weight to fight Miguel Cotto where he felt healthy and strong.

The Miguel Cotto that Mayweather is fighting is going to be a much more dangerous and complete  than the one Manny Pacquiao drained and fought in 2009. Manny feared fighting a fresh Miguel Cotto at 154, but Floyd was brave enough to fight at Cotto’s weight with no catch weight. This is why Floyd is the top dog in the sport, he fights all comers, and is willing to fight the best and most dangerous opponents on equal terms. Money Mayweather is a true THROWBACK fighter.
